Before
leaving Estarris, Victor lets Han borrow his Mirrormir armour and sword.
Kit
says she has to do some Nox things over the next couple of years so Han
will look after Dawn.
Kate
and Karly will also look after Dawn while Kit is away, as her 3 "mad" aunts.
Han,
Minnow, Bacchus, Mordred, Sebal and Trean (who
are not helping directly) delay / fight Tachiomat's
forces.
Tanni
is invited to enrol as well with the promise that she can be returned to
her home world in plenty of time.
On
the way to his study, Mermerin startles 2 young girls out in a corridor
stealing cake from the pantry. For some reason, the two girls do not see
Mermerin's strange guests.
Sinsifel
Selene Dawn - Sin's full name. Used by Valris when berating her.
As
Mermerin asks the group questions, a magical quill records the information
on individual scrolls.
Mermerin
asks a fair few questions ;- such as... "Why
you want to study here? What you hope to get from studying here?"
Mermerin
talks about "booking passage back home..."
Tanni
is gob smacked when she learns just how much chaos Vic, Val and Sin have
- especially Sinsifel and the Eye. She has mixed feelings about it all
- On the one hand she has been raised by her Father, Kaine Orgath, Champion
of Law upon Urth to fear and despise Chaos as the ultimate threat to Universal
Harmony. But Victor and Sin have rescued her from a fate worse than death
and Sin actually seems quite likeable. Tanni would never dream of disobeying
her father back on Urth. But she isn't on Urth and that freedom appeals
to her.
The
magical quill takes notes. Mermerin puts Victor's, Valris' and Tanni's
scrolls, one by one, into a fire. The results (as delivered by "The
Powers That Be" appear in the flames. Before
he puts in Sins though, he asks Victor a question. "If
Sinsifel cannot stay, will you?"
Victor
answers truthfully - "No."
"I
thought as much," says Mermerin, destroying
Sin's scroll in his hand, keeping it from the other flames.
Reasons
for going to the School
Dawn
needs time to grow mentally and attune herself to the Evereon's systems.
The
Time Drive is out of action (because of above), hence no one can actually
leave Estarris.
Minnow
and Kit think it will take at least 2 + years for Dawn to mature enough.
Possibly a fair bit longer as she will still have to learn how to manipulate
the systems, despite them being likened to "an
extra limb."
Tachiomat
is still attacking Estarris. The World may not have that long to survive.
Some sort of resistance must be organized otherwise, Estarris will be consumed
and the Evereon along with it.
Sinsifel
cannot wait 2 + years as she is infected by the power of Tharizden. It
will continue to spread and overwhelm her if she is forced to wait.
Minnow
suggests that Victor learn some proper sword and weapon skills, rather
than just fisty cuffs.
Valris
is keen on regenerating from her dragon burns and using the spell rod to
learn lots of spells.
Notes
on the School
Celesteen
is the Patron Principle of Education - a Lord of Law dedicated to Higher
learning and reaching one's potentials.
The
School is run and maintained by a group of "lawful" minded people who are
allowed some degree of freedom in their methods in order to achieve the
best possible results. No one running the School has actually sworn themselves
to Law as a Servant but they all believe in the Principles of Law. Some
understand the nature of Law and Chaos better than others and all are very
good at what they do.

Bell bottomed figure.
The School Uniform is compulsory for all students. Three Houses exist - Blue, Red and Yellow House. Every student wears the colours of their house. Colours also separate Juniors and Seniors - Juniors Light grey and Seniors dark grey. The colours appear on girls blouses and as stripes on the shoulders of T-shirts or pockets of shirts for the boys. Girls have to wear plaid skirts and either blouses or T-shirts. Boys have to wear shorts, trousers, T-shirts or shirts.
614 Students currently attend the School. Of those, 400 are Juniors and 214 are Seniors. There are currently 12 Prefects. School has been "operational" for 912 years. 80 students graduate each year. 73,000 students have passed through the Celesteen School. 671 have qualified and left the school to continue Higher Training in the Castle of Law. 34 have become Savants of Law - the highest form of recognition of a Law Servant. 19% of all Savants of Law have been trained in Celesteen. 618 students inc Vic, Val, Sin and Tanni.

Victor, Valris and Sin first have to undergo mental evaluation tests to test their current knowledge and skills.
"This
guy is making me feel like a kid" says Valris.
Victor
laughs. He always feels like a kid !
Sin

Valris
initially joins the "Puzzle's club" and Sin joins the choir, band and dramatics'
club.
Sports
- Tennis - Rounders with bat and ball - Rugby aka Bullseye.
Maddy / Madison - leggy.. thin... blonde.
Victor is already worried that Sinsifel is going to lose her virginity.
As Mermerin
walks out of the dining room he chastises two students ;-
Sidney
- Protection spell vs bats at breakfast table.
Malcolm
- eats everything - including metal forks and knives.
The tour continues - Erik's shows the swimming pool, garden and gym. The Celesteen school certainly seems to have everything.
Erik takes the group around to see all 11 teachers. The twelfth teacher has supposedly never been seen. Who is the mysterious twelfth being? Victor suggests that it could be Celesteen himself. A thought that doesn't seem to have crossed Erik's mind.
Victor begins contemplating what he will learn. Meeting Dorian for the first time, Victor finds himself having to face a few hard truths. Dorian - "If you want to study with me you must know this, I demand nothing less than total dedication to me above all other subjects. I will train you to Grand Master level of skill in any of the several disciplines that I am versed in but only if I have your undivided attention."
Victor has plenty of ideas of what he wants to learn but as Dorian points out - "Master Mermerin has told me that you have to fight someone or something quite dangerous when you leave here. I can teach you how to do that. I can make you and your weapon as one."
Victor's ideas ;-
Increase Sword skillTemporal Mechanics - Something Victor considers studying - if only he can master basic mathematics first.Back to dorms for an hour before going to recreation hall. Erik and Vic head back to Red Wing.
Increase Dodge skill
Practice Concentration skill
Practice / Develop spiritual abilities
Erik, Jansen and Moreece discuss Victor's friends - Valris, Tanni and Sin. Valris they agree is an absolute stunner but well out of any of their leagues. Tanni doesn't seem to warrant too much attention as she is "too small". Sin however is good looking but not too good looking to be out of reach. As they discuss her physical merits, Victor feels compelled to join in. Vic says "She's got a nice rack."
Sammis has an acoustic guitar that Moreece can supply to Sinsifel. Moreece hopes that by giving Sin the guitar he can get something out of the deal.
Jansen has a rant about Law and Chaos in the Student Recreation room that evening - He describes Chaos as having "no standards and picking absolutely any dickless freak off of the streets to become their new Chaos God - even shape a turd into a man and call it Lord of the Chaos Turds... while Law looks at a whole world of people and says - No, you're too ugly - no you can't tie your shoe laces - no you're brain isn't the size of planet and is just so fussy that it never picks anyone. Meet Me, Jansen, Lord of the Chaos Turd Planet sized brains - the man in the middle of it all."
Vic
and Valris discuss some more ideas about Law and Chaos.
Tabitha
Kent comes on board in the discussion and
Victor tries arguing that a Multiverse without any Gods is possible.
Tabitha
proposes the theory that at the beginning of the Multiverse, humankind
(unique because of its power of belief)
conjured up various World based concepts like Love, Hate, Good & Evil.
But these concepts varied from World to World. Only the concepts of Law
and Chaos proved to be constant across the whole Multiverse and as such
had Multi-versal belief and power.
Tabitha
walks off when Victor says "You have your
beliefs and I have mine."
Valris
then discusses Victor's idea of banishing all Law and Chaos from the MV.
She doesn't believe it would be possible as they exist from the beginning
to the end of Time - "You would have to remove
them from the whole MV at the same time, fundamentally changing the entire
MV by doing so."
Victor
isn't stupid - he's just uneducated. He has a 16+ INT and WIS that he under
uses.
Time
keeping is important in the school - there are clocks everywhere.
Dorian
demonstrates 5 different fighting styles ;-
Honoi
- Straight cut fighting - solid stance.
Farane
- Curved - sweeping strokes and circular rotating strikes.
Adayus
- Stationary - Very focused. Multiple precision strikes.
Wren
- 2 bladed fighting style. Very mobile. Lots of somersaults and rolls.
Veyus
- Fine, precise, skilled.
Sub
styles ;-
Etreyu
(Special moves)
Rerete
Dorian
- "I require nothing less than total dedication..."
Dorian
- "If I teach you and you become a Grand master
of your own style, everything will be undone if you are still half a being
- if you cannot combine your two halves into one balanced whole."
Victor
chooses to study under Dorian to the exclusion of everything else - after
all, learning how to fight with a sword is probably the most important
thing he can learn at the school for fighting Tharizden.
Chapter 41 - Eternal Champion - Irian - with helmet that shines forth demon slicing light. Ilvir makes appearance at end of the comic - "To be continued."
Back
at the dorm, Valris pays Vic a visit and sets the guy's tongues wagging.
Later, Jansen makes a tent under his blanket that doesn't bother Victor
as he is confident that his love for Valris and their relationship is unshakeable.
He is more paranoid about Sinsifel and how he would react if Jansen were
making tents over his daughter.
Tanni
and Isabelle walk over.
Red
House is punished and told to clear up.
First
lesson is Creative Language and Writing. Given text books.
Partnered
with Erik in Science. Given more books and homework.
Lunchtime...
Meet with Val. "I am so angry. We're not going
to last a week let alone 7 years at this rate,"
says Valris.
Third period - Maths. Fourth period - Self development class with Dorian.
Introduce
other students under Dorian - Sorian, Wayne
and Sakumi of
the Shadow Fighters. Wayne is studying stance and body posturing to predict
moves.
3rd day. Audience with Mermerin to discuss spiritual progress. Meet Mermerin's phoenix - called "Shambles." Mermerin states the Spiritualism is generally Chaotic sided and Mentalism is generally Lawful minded.
Concentration skill - practice by concentrating on what teacher is saying - tackling concentration to avoid opponents.
4th
day of wk 2. Girl with bright green hair flees dining room.
5th
day of wk 2. Same girl with corrected hair suddenly flees with hairy palms.
Vic
suspects Sin is using cantrips. Victim's name is Sherry.
"She stuck worms in my bed."
"She wanted me to be her bitch..."
complains Sin. "I wasn't having any of that,"
she adds.
"Lets
see what you're made of..."
Vic
jumps 80 feet straight up. He shows his speed. Mai files her nails.
Vic
smells something foul. Edge nr a lake.
He
spots a 5 tentacled creature that stinks of rotting flesh and animal carcass'.
As
he approaches it, it drops on him trying to smother and drain his strength.
He claws his way out.
Mai
says that a girl like Valris might make her turn lesbian.
Pass
the night, talking with Mai and Erik.
Erik
tells Victor that their cover story is Prefect Curfew Patrol - ensuring
other students stay in their rooms at night.
Prefect's have people take notes for them when they miss morning lessons.
Week
3 - Day 2 - Magnets. Melkos + 15 other children in Sin's class have mentally
become animals.
"Oh
crap" says Sin - after Victor waits 30 mins
for her to recover and Mermerin has erased the memories of everyone else
in the class.
Sin
is horrified at what she did - "I wanted my
own set of unique results. I already knew what would happen if we boiled
salt. So I got other stuff from the shelf behind me and mixed that all
in. I took note of it all - even weighed and measured it."
Sin
is torn between guilt and being upset to finding the whole thing very amusing.
"So, what did Melkos become?" she asks - Victor remembers Melkos being
a monkey but doesn't tell her.
Sin
- "It was boring - at least I know how to
make it happen again - I just spit in it."
"Grandfather
would make it so much more exciting - he'd let us take the whole wall of
ingredients down and experiment with the lot."
Valris
says - "Ok, don't tell me."
Valris
goes out that night on her own Prefect duty with Tabitha Kent and Vee Vasquez.
Valris
has no encounters but learns a bit about her two Prefect companions. She
learns that Tabitha can send out hundreds of tiny spiritual pieces of pollen
that allow her to see in many places at once. And that Vee can summon up
a giant battle cat that she rides into battle on with a huge halberd.
When Sin sticks her forked tongue out at her parents, Valris is shocked but sympathetic. Outside the room Victor and Valris discuss her problem. "I hope she learns her lesson from this," says Valris.
Valris has joined the Logic Puzzle club. The Psychiotromerites (People obsessed with doing things with their minds instead of their hands)
Tanni has joined the Running Club and the Riding Club.
On Prefect
duty, Vic practices moving his spirit entirely out of his body.
Tanni turns, hearing Sin scream. She sees Sin backed up against a tree, about to be struck by one of the teeth filled heads. Without thinking Tanni runs at the creature, vaults onto its back and continues upwards towards its heads. Through the trees parallel to her she sees something black speeding against the skyline. She reaches out and suddenly Black Bone is in her hand, descending in a wide and deep arc to slice clean through the neck of the head threatening her friend. Moments later the sword blurs twice again as she leaps away and the other two heads fall, gushing at Sinifel's feet.
"Are
you ok?" Tanni asks, panicked. "Are
you injured?"
"No..."
Sin gasps, stepping away from the creature's expanding pool of black blood.
"I think I need some new underwear though."
Moments later Victor and Valris notice Sherry running back all scraped and cut from her flight through the woodland. "Monster!" she gasps, before stumbling inside the school. Vic and Valris run in the direction Sherry came from and remove their pendants.
Vic and Val come across the stunned Sin. Tanni is standing with the sword over her shoulder above the three severed heads, staring in amazement and disbelief at what she has done. Erik later arrives on the scene, sees that they are all ok and leaves again, just as quickly - after all, it is broad daylight and he doesn't want to attract too many students to the area. Several minutes later the creature begins to dissipate into the earth, leaving behind only a black stain on the grass. Vic and Val later fill out an incident report to let Mermerin know what happened and Tanni takes her own sword back to the school as it won't let anyone else touch it.
That
night Erik meets with a couple of the other Prefects to discuss what happened.
They all agree that it is a little odd for a Nightmare to attack in broad
daylight and that Tanni should be considered for Prefect when she becomes
a Senior.
Passes all 3. Graduates up to level 3. Spending time with Gabriel.
Victor goes up on Maths to Level 2. Victor also goes up to Level 2 in English / Writing. Level 2 in Arts and Crafts. Bead necklace for Valris.
Last match of the term. Can the Ruckers win? Victor gives a speech.
End of Term dance. Victor doesn't want to "pretend" break-up with Valris, but goes along with it - taking one for the Team.
Blue won the term... Sawyer - thanks Gadaf - Valris and Tabitha for their efforts.
Jansen's flower escapade in Sawyer's dorm and his threatening of the 12 yr old... "Stay in there ... I like little boy's bums..." squeaks Jansen in a silly little high pitched voice, striking terror into the boy sentry.
Valris gives Victor a humungus slap on the dance floor during the last door. It is so loud, the music actually stops.
Prefect
Duty this evening ;-
JK
- Jerry Kinlow of the City of Damascus. Yellow House, Seniors. Plate and
Chain. Long staff steel shod.
Madeline
- Yellow House. Buckling on two swords. Circlet.
Victor
does some sword practice.
Rumour
mill is turning - Valris supposedly up all night crying - Victor having
an affair - mistreating her.
This term.
Blue Team do definitely have tactics for obtaining information on the other teams, their tactics, their strengths and their weaknesses.
Change
tactics - Ruckers win first game in a long time.
Further
use of rings of soul linking to intensify contacts.
Play
- Verity running a play called the Grave Digger. Sin gets the part of the
Corpse Bride. Sin gets a singing part.
Vic
kills one of Narvai's Phantom Bats.
Valris
- warns Victor about Moreece selling info to Sawyer.
Vic
makes team change tactics at last moment.
Team
wins 21 to 7.
Spirit
training.
Meet
with Mermerin to discuss the strange Knight.
"T
is something that the powers that be choose to ignore..."
Mermerin
is utterly surprised to hear Victor's story about the Creation of Tharizden.
Girls have created the Victor and Valris club. They save things like discarded apple peels and pieces of screwed up paper with Vic and Vals writing on.
"Find em, fool em, finger em, fuck em, forget em - The Five F's" - Quote Justin.
5 months
passed so far.
Mai
- Attacks it and adds 5' on it.
Tanni
heads out and hits it, chopping an arm off. Sinsifel.
JK
summons up earth bonds to pin the thing in place with his staff.
Tanni
then does a super round house swing with Black Bone.
Victor
bites Toby on the arm. Vic drains some of his blood. Teachers are all out
of the school on a Teachers Conference... it was unannounced but Narvay
must have got wind of it through someone.
Madeline
- longest doing prefect duty. Sin restores Toby's body back from Narvai
but not his mind. Toby has mind of a child and will have to relearn everything.
Tanni
severs both the creatures legs and then its head. Mai and Madeline face
off. Madeline wants to kill Toby as he is already claimed by Narvai. Erik
and Toby later are taken to the hospital. Mai is still in her pink bunny
Pj's and Tanni is still in a blue nightie and hair cap.
Mai
says goodnight.
Toby
(according to Mermerin)
is going to be ok, but will have to relearn.
Vic
is a bit put off because he couldn't do anything.
On the
night of the performance, Sin is extremely nervous. Tanni visits her backstage
and helps her with her makeup. "You're gonna
be fine," Tanna assures. "You're
gonna knock 'em dead."
Sin
nervously laughs. "Don't say that ! What if
I do kill them? What if no one claps and they think the whole thing stinks
like a rotten cabbage."
Tanni
grins from ear to ear. "Well, a Corpse Bride
has to stink sometime. It's a matter of natural decomposition and gas."
Sin
gives Tanni a jab in the ribs. "Go away. Go
keep an eye on my father. I just know he's going to do something. I feel
it in my bones."
"In
your fleshless decaying bones," Tanni groans,
rolling her eyes and doing a zombie impersonation.
As the
curtain rises, Victor, Sin, Erik and Tanni are all sat in one of the rows
nearest to the stage.
The
first half of the show goes by without a hitch and the audience loves it.
Some of the teachers find it a bit too tongue in cheek and macabre but
the superb performances of Martyrin of Sin captivate even the most sceptical
among them. (This isn't the first time that
Verity has put on a show that doesn't quite conform to the School Curriculum
and its ties to Law.)
About
half-way through the second half though, Mai approaches Victor and taps
him on the shoulder. She whispers in his ear - "We
may have a problem."
She
leads him out of the hall and along an empty corridor to the boys toilets.
A boy is sat outside looking ghostly pale and obviously frightened. "Thomas
here found something inside a few minutes ago,"
explains Mai.
She
leads Victor in and shows him a large spray of blood up one of the walls
and an open window leading outside. Victor removes his blood inhibiting
pendant and lets his Chaos return. He sniffs around and tells Mai that
whoever was here climbed out of the window, so Mai doesn't wait and starts
climbing. As she is dressed in a ball gown she struggles a bit. "Give
me a hand and don't cop a feel," she says.
As both
of them track the person around to the back of the stage hall they suddenly
come across a large crowd of 30 or so students, all milling about at the
back door. "Hello,"
says Mai. "Why are you all here?"
The crowd turns and starts shambling towards them; even though they look
and are dressed as students, they appear to have lifeless eyes and zombie-like
bodies.
"This
isn't good," says Mai.
Just
then Sin's voice carries over the moaning zombies as she launches into
the final song of the show. "I've got to stop
the show," says Victor, rushing off. "I'll
keep this lot busy," says Mai, "Don't
mind me - I'm dressed for Zombie bashing."
But Victor doesn't hear her as he is already leaping back through the window
and blurring with his super speed backstage.
Vic
approaches Verity who is enthralled at how her show is going.
"We've
got to stop the show," says Victor.
"What!
Are you serious. Out of the question. It's a masterpiece. Look at their
faces. Everyone is spellbound."
Victor
thinks to himself - "That's what I'm worried
about." It is then that he notices the
dancing zombies behind Sinsifel and Martyrin - dancing zombies that look
a little life-like and seem to be falling over themselves. "Look
at those, they're real zombies !"
"Preposterous!"
Verity exclaims. "It's their makeup and costumes.
Now get out of here." She gestures and two
stage hands grab hold of Victor's arms to escort him away. But as they
do, Sin launches into the final romantic part of her song - the part that
ultimately ends with her kissing Martyrin and taking him back into the
grave with her. Victor's mind races with the terrible possibilities that
might ensue if Sin isn't stopped - For Victor, this is obviously the work
of the Eye of the Chaos and he has to put an end to it before it is too
late. With Vampiric speed, agility and strength he throws off the stage
hands and tries lowering the curtain. But the Eye prevents it from falling
and matters grow worse when a lamp falls over and the curtain catches fire.
Throwing his arms up in despair, Victor leaps across the stage towards
his daughter.
The audience, focused entirely upon the climax of the show and many with tears in their eyes, fail to notice until the last instant the strange flying apparition speeding towards the loving couple. Gazing intently into the eyes of someone who she has dreamed of kissing for the last few months, Sinsifel leans in close, puckering her lips for the finale.
At that instant, Victor grabs her by the arm, trips over a gravestone, kicks Martyrin flying 20 feet off the stage and into the audience and flies to land on top of her in the freshly dug grave that was to be her romantic resting place.
Sinsifel screams. Martyrin breaks his arm and all hell breaks loose. But as Victor pokes his head up and looks around, he sees that the "zombies" have all returned to their normal student selves and once again he has averted disaster... students run screaming past him to escape the flames and a stampede to evacuate the hall leaves Martyrin trampled underfoot.
Mai inspects the damage backstage. None of the zombified students can remember what happened. She does notice a small bird has gone missing from its cage and one of the girl students has a few loose feathers stuck around her mouth.
Sin is not happy. "My second ever kiss... I've been waiting for weeks, I'm the star, its the big finish and all I want is you to say well done and instead there you are, flying through the air and rugby tackling me into a freshly dug grave. I am never going to be happy. I'm never going to have a boyfriend or have sex !" screams Sin.
Victor
is forced to let Erik know the truth about Vic, Val and Sin's connection.
Victor
and Valris are strong armed by Erik and Mai and sat in toilet cubicles
to explain themselves and what has happened....
Martyrin has a broken leg from where Victor knocked him off the stage while he was kissing Sinsifel.
Vic
finds Sin a couple of days later. Tanni is lying on the grass chewing some
grass.
When
Victor visits Mertyrin in the hospital to apologize and tell him that he
can still go near Sin, Martyrin reveals what he really thinks of Victor's
daughter - "She's too much of a 'freak' for
my tastes," says Martyrin.
Towards
the end of the year, Erik and Mai get it together and have a brief hot
and cold romance.
Victor
tries to give Jansen guidance in his studies and life skills but educating
Jansen isn't easy.
Jansen
shows Victor the latest issue of Chaos Chronicle
- issue 83 - With Minnow stealing the Chaos Chicken from Mog's Throne.
A golden chicken capable of laying Chaos Eggs of all things. Minnow is
then pursued by a horde of demons.

Madison
is head of Yellow house.
The
day before New Year's day, Victor, Valris and Sin have a visitor.
Kit
arrives and they fill her in on everything they have been up to. In return
she tells them what has been happening on Estarris since they left.
Sebal
has made a machine to emit a pulse wave that reveals Draconians in a half
a city radius.
Sin
has her own room now with Tanni.
Valris
now has a room entirely to herself. So does Tabitha as they have both earned
enough points.
Victor
is now able to sneak at night after curfew to Valris' room and climb in
through a window for nookie. Something he does at every opportunity.
Victor will focus on his sword fighting this new year - Dorian advises again that Victor uses all of his abilities to focus on his hybrid fighting style. He also picks up and learns shield.
"I am something that shouldn't be," says Kit, about herself and Mermerin's reaction to her.
New
house captains - Maddison (Yellows), Valris (Blue), Erik (speech)
Merit
Awards - Valris forward for 2. Sin - Merit Award for her performance and
dedication to the Corpse Bride.
Prince
and Princess - Valris, Victor.
The nearby island on the lake has the ruins of an old laboratory on it - Victor suggests that she get it rebuilt and this becomes the first step in her longer term goals. With Victor's help designing it, she submits the designs for a new laboratory to Mermerin for approval. Along with the designs she works out material cost, required manpower and how she will earn enough points to "purchase" equipment to go in it. Mermerin is very impressed with the level of detail in her planning. He later says to Victor during one of their "catch-up" discussions, "I am most impressed with Valris. She has really surprised me. When you first came here I was most concerned about her - more so than even Sinsifel. But instead I and her teachers are often stunned at her abilities. For one so young to not only master the obvious affliction of her blood but rise above it and leave so many other students in her wake with her lawful approach, is astounding."
Mermerin agrees to Valris' plan, as along as she continues working with the School clubs, the school administration and co-operating as Gabriel's teaching assistant. To Valris that means unparalleled freedom to pursue her own research and experiments away from the school. For Mermerin, that means that Valris can study and learn without putting the school at risk or compromising Victor's mission there.
As the island is too far out across the lake to reach by bridge, Victor proposes building a ferry. This too is figured into the costs and set up as a project for the Structural Engineering Class.
It takes the entire first term for Valris to plan everything and get the complete go ahead but by week 13, students are beginning to construct what she wants. Of course the students don't realize it is for Valris - only that they have been given projects to complete for their year's final grades.
In the
meantime Valris continues accumulating merit points by being Blue House
Head, Chief Club Organizer and Event Master as well as Teaching Assistant
to Gabriel and School Prefect.
Victor
sighs and heads to Sin and Tanni's room and bypasses a queue of students
outside, all clutching pieces of paper.
Inside
he finds Tanni lying on her bed, Black Bone openly hanging on the wall
above her. Sin's side of the room is strewn with paper and a desk has been
positioned near the door for receiving other students. Glancing at one
of the pieces of paper Victor discovers it is a petition to change the
rules on School Uniform.
Sin
is quick to defend her position. "I'm working
within the system," she argues. "If
enough people agree with me and we get a student body majority, Mermerin
and the other teachers will have to sit up and listen. It's not as if I'm
trying to abolish all school uniform, just add some flexibility into it
- 3 different lengths of skirt for instance as opposed to just the one.
Variation of colour, so instead of just plain grey we can have grey, black
and white. Here is my list of changes. What do you think?"
"I
think rules are rules Sin," says Victor. "Even
with your petition, they aren't likely to change."
"They
have to change. There's no reason for them to be the way they are. They
are outdated and unfashionable."
"They're
designed to make everyone equal."
"What
about mum - her points don't make her equal. She wears all sorts of things
we don't get to."
"That's
different. You're going about this the wrong way. Try not to be so aggressive."
"I'm
willing to fight for this. I've been really good this last year, doing
stuff for me and for us. But now I want to do something for my fellow students.
I want to bring a little colour and freedom into their otherwise dreary
oppressed lives. I want short skirts !"
Victor
sighs and looks at Tanni who in turn is gazing at Sin in adoration. Tanni
puts on a mysterious character voice and says - "Beware
her power, for it is capable of bringing almighty shit down on anyone who
opposes her..." Tanni chuckles.
| Month 3 | Sin
submits her petition to change the rules on school uniform to School master
Mermerin. Mermerin congratulates her on her efforts but stresses "The
Rules on school uniform are firmly fixed and cannot be changed, no matter
how many people you get to agree with you."
Sin argues, "But what about freedom? What about choice? What about democracy? This place is nothing more than a dictatorship!" Mermerin doesn't appear impressed by Sin's outburst. "Sinsifel, I strongly advise you to let this matter drop. The rules are the rules. Some rules just simply cannot be altered or broken. This is a lesson you must learn." "Fish guts !" Sin explodes. "That's narrow minded brainwashed doctrine designed to placate the masses and make everyone behave like good little lambs. We both know that any rules can be broken. Rules are made by beings and who is to say that the rule makers are right. Take away a person's right to question and you get mindless chimps. I thought this school was about getting people to think, not chew the cud." Mermerin's face is mixture of emotions as Sin's outburst continues. "I value your beliefs and your strong stance on this, but I must stress again, this particular rule cannot and will not be broken." "Let's compromise then." "No compromising..." Mermerin shakes his head. "Well tough then. I'm going to wear what I like, how I like it. What are you going to do about it? Expel me?" Memerin's eyes narrow and gaze intently down the ridge of his nose. Softly, "You know that I will not do that. You understand what is at stake as much as I but still refuse to be a good little girl." Sin hmmphs but Mermerin continues. "I may have to talk to your parents about this." "I'm not going to change my mind." "And if I change your mind by magic?" Mermerin tilts his head. "If I cast a spell on you to make you all sweet and docile, eager to learn. What then?" "You wouldn't dare." "I would dare at that. And I dare say that your parents might even let me do it. They're keen on you learning here as much as I and if it takes a temporary attitude adjustment for you to see the error of your ways, then so be it." Sin suddenly looks worried. "What are my options?" "If you earn points like your mother, you can use those points to make extensions to your wardrobe, not changes. That is your only option." "I don't just want it for me, I want it for everyone." "Not going to happen," says Mermerin. "Every time you break the school uniform rules, your house colour will pay the price and drop points." Sin stands up. "Fine then. Do it. I have the students behind me. Lets see how your little award and point system works when one house doesn't have any. Any balance you have here is going down the drain. This is war."Mermerin later calls Victor and Valris into see him about Sin. "Let me first explain my view on her petition and views. I am not concerned by her actions or her challenge to the school uniforms. In fact, quite the opposite, I am glad for the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of Law. Sometimes the best way to learn is to teach outside of the class room in a real life scenario. And this scenario has the ability to effect the whole school. I understand your concerns but assure you that this is perfectly normal. This is not the first time that a student has challenged the rules and attempted to disrupt the system and it will not be the last." Valris - "But this is Sin. She does have the Eye of Chaos on her. Don't underestimate her Mermerin. She's our daughter and that makes her extremely dangerous." Mermerin - "Valris, I do not underestimate her. I am in the process of teaching her. Continue as you are, berate and talk to her. If necessary threaten her with punishment, for what good it will ultimately do. In the end, Sin must come to her own conclusion and understanding. She must see for herself the benefits of Law." |
| Month 4 | Day
10. After breaking
uniform rules on several occasions and earning herself a lot of detentions,
Sin is cornered on her own in the girl's locker room by several of the
other girls from Yellow House. One girl called Helena speaks above the
rest, pinning Sin to the wall. "We've lost
this whole term's points because of you and your little 'Crusade'. This
is your last warning little Miss Chaos Bitch, get back in line or we'll
flush you down a drain." With that the girls
rip off Sin's uniform, punch her and leave her bleeding and crying in a
corner. When Tanni finds Sin, Tanni inadvertently summons Black Bone through
a closed window. Glass showers everywhere.
"What the hell happened? A Demon?" Tanni leaps up ready for action." "Nope," Sin sponges her swollen and cut lip. "Worse than that. A bunch of sheep." Tanni laughs. "Sheep? Are you baaa-rking mad?" Sin laughs but winces in pain from her bruised chest. "I'm gonna puke," she manages to say, before heaving into a toilet. Tanni stays with her. "You should go see the Doc. Maybe this uniform thing is getting out of hand." "I am not stopping. Intimidation is a natural part of any dictatorship." Tanni - "Ok. I'm with you every step of the way." "You can't be," Sin adds. "I've told you before. They can expel you. You could be sent home and I don't want that to happen." Later as Sin and Tanni return from visiting the Doctor, they come across a lot of students laughing and pointing upwards. Above them, tied to the school flag pole is a mannequin dressed in Sin's unique school uniform with scarecrow like rainbow hair. A sign drawn underneath it reads - "No one cares. Look who's in the Sin bin now." Sinsifel curses under her breath as more people laugh at her. Tanni threatens a few of them. One group even turns on Tanni calling her "Little Miss Chaos's tinsy winsy spider." Valris
is furious when she learns what has happened and out for blood but Sin
acts pretty nonchalant about the whole thing. "It's
my business mum. Just leave it."
Day
12.
"They
really hate you don't they," mutters Tanni,
tossing Sin a spare pair of knee-highs.
With that Sin casts a few spells and calls upon the Eye of Chaos to help her. That morning Sin doesn't attend class. Instead a rather happy looking Helena enters looking all prim and proper. She manages to strangely insult half her friends, lets out a few loud belches and even picks her nose a few times. Then to top it off, half way through the class, 'Helena' is called upon to read a passage from a romantic novel. As she reads it, she rubs her breasts and sits down on Henrick's lap (Henrick being the ugliest, smelliest boy in the class). She finishes the passage by giving the poor chap a full on snog and a face full of cleavage. At this point 'Helena' is sent out of the class to see the School Master for indecent behaviour but 'Helena' just sticks her fingers up and struts out, giving Henrick a saucy wink. Slightly earlier that morning, Tanni gets a message delivered to the real Helena saying that her morning class has been cancelled and that she has a free study period in the library. Tanni follows her to make sure she takes the bait, which she does. Later
that morning Sin (still looking like Helena)
meets up with Tanni in the newly constructed pool shed and the two have
a good giggle. "Time to change back,"
says Sin, calling on the Eye to get rid of the polymorph effect. But the
Eye doesn't seem to work, no matter how many times Sin tries it. "I
felt sure something happened though," says
Sin, growing concerned.
Meanwhile elsewhere in the school, the real Helena suddenly starts screaming. Her beautiful blonde hair has suddenly turned black. She runs out into the corridor and up to a mirror. "Oh my god!" She sees the reflection of Sin staring back at her. "I'm her. I'm her. Help me! Help !" Students just laugh at her, thinking it is another prank of some sort. Jansen happens to be walking by and comments "That crazy wench, she's got a whole bag of screws loose..." Deciding to skip lessons, Tanni and Sin are about to head out into the woods for the rest of the day when they hear a commotion and see Helena running outside screaming. "Uh
oh," Tanni mutters. "That
looks like you."
Stunned at seeing herself approaching, Helena points and is about to speak when Tanni grips her arm. "Come with us if you don't want to be stuck like that forever." |
| Month 5 | Things
have calmed down quite a bit over the past couple of weeks. Sin is still
in extended detention and still unpopular among the other students of her
house, but at least she has decided to "temporarily"
drop her action against school uniform. The ferry across Lake Atrophy is
completed. Valris oversees the final renovations to her new laboratory
and prepares to move in. For 4 days of the week she intends on working
from the lab while the other 3 days she intends on earning points for Blue
House, assisting Gabriel in his lectures and helping to run student clubs
and activities.
Events this month ;- Valris organizes a sponsored physical and mental challenge contest called "Brains and Brawn." Students submit teams made up of "Brainiacs" and "Brawnies," ; ie. Brainy people and physical people. The contest consists of 6 rounds, (3 physical and 3 mental challenges). The contest proves extremely popular and Valris gets backing to do it again the following year. Victor begins training with dual purpose, reinforced lower arm guards. Sin decides to form her own band, tentatively titled - "Eyebite." Tanni joins her on bass. The two of them begin looking for a drummer and violinist but as no one really wants anything to do with them, they find it difficult. Note - Sin and Tanni were originally in "The Seraphim" but the band disbanded due to differences in opinion - namely Sin having very strong ideas about songwriting, singing and the type of music. And Tanni being forced out for being rubbish at playing the Cello. Dorian's student Sakumi fails to observe proper protocol in training - i.e. she doesn't acknowledge her opponent's surrender and follows through with a killing stroke. Dorian angrily sends her out of his class. "I am not teaching any of you to be ruthless killers. There are animals in nature that can teach you that far better than I. I am teaching you something that requires a higher level of understanding and discipline. To attain that level you have to master your instincts and ultimately transcend them." Dorian does not allow Sakumi back for one whole week. Valris undergoes a physical examination with Doctor Fabien. Fabien presents her with the results and she in turn passes them onto Victor. "Fabien says that as long as I remain as I am, (she holds out Mermerin's locket), I am like any other 16 year old fertile girl, well almost any. There are 'anomalies' in my blood work that Fabien cannot understand that might effect a child, but he cannot gauge for sure." How does Victor react to that news? |
| Month 6 | School
life goes on as per normal.
Events this month ;- Victor
encounters a strange Phantom demon during one of his patrols.
As it sees Victor, it speaks - "Are you the one they shelter here?" But before Victor can ask it any questions, gun shots ring out and silver spikes pierce the creature, impaling it to a tree. Erik reloads his gun shot-gun style and prepares for the killing head shot. The creature hisses and tries pulling itself free to no avail. "He knows... he knows..." it hisses, looking at no one in particular. Boom. Another spike punctures its head and it evaporates. "Sure," says Erik, "he knows diddly squat now." A week
later and Valris announces she has learned two new spells... Invisibility
and Light Shield.
She tests the Invisibility out on herself when next out on patrol with
Victor. For Victor with his heightened senses it makes her appear cloaked
(Predator style), but for any normal human it renders her 98% unseen. "I
can see me using this spell a lot," Valris
beams.

| Month 7 | Fashion
Rebel
After a few hard weeks of being shunned by other students, Sin manages to find a loop hole in the uniform rule. Well, not exactly a loop hole but she does realize that drama and band practice have less strict rules over uniform. She begins making her own costumes and gets top marks from Verity for her creativity. But her costumes quickly attract a fair bit of interest - it's not that the other students didn't like Sin's clothing ideas in the Uniform rebellion, it's just that they didn't want to get punished for them. Now, with Verity's backing, Sin starts a small fashion and designer costume enterprise, combining her knowledge of futuristic styles (gained from hours upon hours sifting through Kit's database) and her superb skill with cantrips.Verity suggests that Sin help her organise a student fashion show. This way Sin can showcase her designs without fear of reprisal. Sin thanks her and quickly sets to work. |
| Month 8 | Trouble
in camp Sinsifel again...Day 6
- Sin stays up late to finish making a blood red dress for her fashion
show, that premieres in 2 days time. However, when she wakes at her design
table the following morning, the dress has disappeared and is no longer
on the clothes dummy.
Sin
is furious and immediately starts hunting for the culprit(s). To Tanni
- "It could have been anyone. It's not like
I don't have enemies. Someone has just made me really pissed !"
After Sin and Tanni push a few girls around and flush a few heads they are no nearer to finding the thief. "This is no good. I'm gonna have to report it to Verity and run with the blue top as my main piece instead." Day
7 - In the middle of the night Victor is awakened in his bed by Mai. "Don't
worry soldier, I'm not here to rape you. We've got some business to attend
to."
Once Victor is awake and dressed (Mai does take a peek), Mai leads him outside and explains. "One of the guys from Blue Dorm 2 has just been found strangled inside the main building. As Val isn't here, (at her lab) we need your nose." Victor gets equipped and accompanies Mai to the scene of the murder. Young Master Talbery (aged 13) is lying slumped against a wall with a blanket thrown over him. It is obvious to Victor that the boy has been suffocated, but not by flesh and blood hands. Victor sniffs and senses something supernatural. With Vee and Mai bringing up the rear, Victor tracks the smell to the school's ventilation system. Unfortunately though, the ducts are too small to traverse, even for Victor. Mai says that she will report Victor's findings to Mermerin. "The school's been breached by a demon. This isn't good. We need to redouble our watches and enforce strict curfew. I'm going to advise all students travel in pairs until further notice." "Hold on," says Victor. "I might have a way of following it." Victor, having practiced a lot more with his spirit sense by now, sends his sight and sense of smell into the ducts. After quite some time travelling back and forth he emerges in the school's laundry room - but here the scent grows impossible to track due to all the detergents and soaps. Victor decides to investigate further, but physically. At 2.30am, with Vee and Mai in tow, Victor enters the school's laundry room and tries to pick up the demon's trail. But as Mai is poking through the bundles of laundry saying "Something smells yucky in here..." a bed sheet suddenly wraps itself around her head and mouth. Mai
starts choking and grasping at the sheet in a panic. "Help!" she cries,
her voice muffled as the sheet winds itself tighter and tighter around
her face and throat.
What
does Victor do next? Leap ahead
to the conclusion...
Laboratory: It is a simple and relatively efficient layout. Too many doors thought interlinking all the rooms for Victor's liking, will be really hard to defend if enemy got inside building. The doors linking kitchen to lab1 and store to lab2 should at least be lockable and barricade-able. Likewise the front and back entrance doors (Vic can't help thinking of these things).Valris is more concerned about being able to move around as freely as possible. She isn't concerned about being attacked as she intends on casting a few "alarm" spells in the area. Plus, 5 miles is nothing for Victor to traverse. He could probably manage it in 3 minutes and that is taking into account the terrain - plus an extra minute for the swim. As the lab is completed and as the weeks go by, Prefects like Erik and other students like Tabitha visit Valris to just "chill out" away from the School. Valris welcomes the visitors but doesn't get distracted from her research and experiments. The stairs, are they a grand hall style of stairs or do they go around a central support pillar? if support pillar, then Vic reckons it will be far better to extend the upper floor so as to create an additional room which extends some what out onto the foyer. As this room can then be a study / rest (small library) room with a balcony on the part that extends on the foyer. Who ever going to live/work at lab is going to need some where to chill out/think away from the labs. And I am sure the view from said balcony will be rather good. Point taken and map amended accordingly. Staircase travels up around centre pillar onto a landing. Then from the landing, a couple of steps lead up to the two bedrooms and I have now added a step the other way, extending out above the entrance room with a balcony. View is quire breathtaking too - imagine a crystal clear Canadian lake ringed in by trees. This room I have called "The Lounge" although Erik will refer to it as "The Prefect Loft." Other: Is
it possible to ward rooms to stop Narvay from gaining access to peoples
dreams?
Valris has actually already been looking into wardings. Unfortunately her Spell Rod doesn't cover Signs, sigils, Wards etc - only standard AD&D 1st to 9th level spells and their like. After discussing with Mermerin the following comes to light... Mermerin - "Such things do exist but not here in the school. In order for a "ward" against Chaos to be effective, an area of ground has to be made "Lawful." Normal protection spells will keep out Narvay's phantoms just as effectively as a Servant of Law's barriers but to actually keep Narvay out of someone's mind is a little trickier, as he is the "Lord of the Within."" Mermerin doesn't give Valris a lot to go on, but does make a few leading comments. "Narvay, like all Chaos Lords, abhors a structured mind. He goes for weak minds or those in emotional turmoil. He exploits cracks and doubts in a person's psyche and opens them up into grand canyons, turning the mild mannered pencil pusher into the psychotic axe wielding lunatic." Valris is convinced that her mind will not be at threat as it is constantly mulling over spells and enchantment ideas. For protecting other people she is going to have to think some more. "If the school is not protected by Wards and the ground isn't consecrated or Lawful," says Valris, "Why is it that we aren't overrun by Narvay's servants?" "I never said the School wasn't 'Protected'. It's just not protected by Wards or Barriers of Law", says Mermerin with a wry smile. "Also, we are closer to the Castle of Law than any other place in the Multiverse. This narrows down Narvay's windows of opportunity." Militarising
the Prefects:
Mermerin's take on this - "The Prefect System is not meant to be a rigid structure of Lawful soldiers. It is an opportunity for students with abilities to test themselves against the forces of Chaos, to see if it is their calling. I have never imposed structure upon it as I firmly believe that the Prefects must learn how to organise themselves. It would be easy for someone with military experience to step in and start ordering people around but what tends to happen with those who are not ready for such "Order," is that they rebel and turn away from it. I am all for you attempting to do this Victor - Your test will be in convincing such a diverse and well educated group of people that what you are doing is in their best interests. Just remember though, once a student graduates from the school, a very select few are chosen to go to the Castle of Law. There they are placed into a Military style School. So consider Celesteen a "pre-school" where people can find their path in life." And considering one of the best defences against Chaos is Order / Law, Vic well thinks it odd. Right. It is odd - But even though the title says - Celesteen, School of Law, it obviously isn't - it's Pre-Law. True Law is just over the horizon. Victor was / is intending to make changes / improve to how the prefect system works, during the 2nd / 3rd year which is the reason he didn't go up for Red House Captain (time). One simply being the pooling of all knowledge concerning Narvay and his minions, weaknesses / strengths / wardings / typical signs of possession (e.g. Toby) etc. Using this knowledge to create training lessons for new and old prefects would be good. Not only that as the experienced Prefects leave, with them leaves a large amount of knowledge fighting Narvay's minions. This knowledge should be recorded and built upon as time goes on so that new recruits can be better trained in defence of the school. Mermerin has all the "Incident Reports" filed by Prefects over the last 40 years and any Prefect is allowed access to them. They make for interesting reading and contain info on the type of Manifestation, victims and ultimately how the creature was defeated. All reports are cross-linked and filed by Type of Manifestation, Date and Prefects on scene. There is a Red file... Mermerin says "Out of the 4531 filed reports, this Red file has only 11 in it. These are 'open' cases involving powerful Narvay servants that either escaped, caused severe loss of life (both student and Prefect) or scared the living daylights out of those filing the report." Mermerin continues - "I don't make the Red file generally available unless a Prefect comes specifically asking for it. The reasons for this are two-fold - One, the reports are by their very content, a nightmarish read and enough to cause some people to become susceptible to Narvay's influence. Two, some Prefects would not want to go out at night if they knew what could be out there." So, in brief - "The more you fill a person's head with stories of nightmarish encounters, horrific deaths and terrifying incidents, the more chance, for we all have dreams, Narvay has of gaining a foothold. That is why I keep a close eye on the flow of information. You are of course welcome to come and search for specific things or to consult these reports to establish links. Just do not dwell on them too long." There needs to
be standard protocols made for certain events.
Toby was lucky?
that Sin was lucky in her use of the Eye, but she won't always be around
and when she's gone. Not only that Vic doesn't like Sin using the
Eye for such things as it could well have gone the other way and made the
situation far worse. What will happen if a nightmare gets that bad
again? At the end of the day, it will be far better for said persons
to be killed than to let them be completely consumed by Narvay and taken
to his realm (well better for their soul's). Or better yet an item
needs to be made that can temporarily wipe a person's mind, as I
kind of get the impression with Toby that once he had been mind wiped the
nightmare no longer had such a strong link to Narvay.
Concerning Vic's
encounter with the Stalker bats I remember a certain girl having a massive
fear of bats. Sidney (Blue house), protection spell vs bats.
Is she a Prefect? No, she isn't. Either way Vic reckons it would
be a good idea for some one to make sure she ain't being affected by Narvay.
Prob best if
he spoke to Mermerin first. While there he will ask Mermerin about
the prefect system and if it can be improved (he won't say changed, not
allowed to change laws but u can always streamline them). He also
wants to find out what Mermerin knows about Narvays minions.
Thought Sin was
already in a band:
Eyebite (under Sin's commanding influence) begins developing into a Medieval rock band. Bit more hardcore than Clannad and the Corrs. Val new spells:

Metal only. He can only alter one type of metal at a time and cannot transmute bronze to brass or steel to gold etc. The explosive shells he can fire is a little trick. He carries a pouch of explosive powder that he puts his hand in. He then shapes the bullets around the powder. When accused of misleading Victor he says "Hey, I wasn't going to share all my secrets with you mate. You were the noob. We didn't know if you had your pants on backwards." Light
shells are not possible. What a shame.

Valris thinks quite hard about 10 months of being normal. "I could do it. I could live without the abilities and it wouldn't effect my studies. But let's think about this.. 5 more years to go. That would make any child only 4 years old when we left here. We are going into a lot of danger and we already have Sin to worry ourselves about. Another child might distract us even more...." Valris is not against the idea and willing to go for it, but wants Victor to seriously think it through first. Getting pregnant while at the school would be rude, but Valris doesn't give a damn what Mermerin might think about it. Obviously a pregnant Valris would not set a very good example to other students. But Valris says - "Once I've earned enough points to stay out here for some time, I intend on running the clubs and such from the island, not the school. It's do-able. I could spend nearly the entire 9 months here on the island." Vic would love
to have another child, but he is worried if well this is the right time
but then
Perhaps Victor should consult someone else about this and get another opinion. Just say who you want to talk to and I'll give their view on it. Celesteen is probably one of the safer places - you're right about that. And again, when is the right time. You and Valris might never get a few years together like this again. But quickly, Clothes

What does Victor do next? The first thing
he does is to extend his concentration to encompass the whole room (doesn't

Ok, Vic is Vamper Vic at the moment so he can hear and smell exactly where Mai and Vee are. The moment he walked into the room his heightened awareness noted 2 exits and a series of high but very narrow ventilation windows. Extending his awareness, he would probably just try to find the "source" of whatever is attacking. But even though he gets a feeling of something on the otherside of the room, the sounds of Mai and Vee suffocating will prevent him from taking any action other than rescue. This clothes thing

The Red Dress Victor leaps through the maelstrom of swirling bed sheets, grabs Mai and Vee and pushes out through the door, slamming it behind him with a foot. Mai gasps for air and Vee collapses. "What's all that about? What next, an army of underpants!" Mai growls. Victor urges them to stay outside. "Stay here. It can't harm me so I'm going back in for the source." "Whatever you say goldilocks," says Mai, hoisting Vee to her feet.Victor opens the door and wades back in. The first line of defence he encounters is a wall of sheets. He flexes his claws and starts shredding them so that the air quickly fills with torn pieces of whirling cloth. The next line of defence proves a little more difficult to overcome. Large bed sheets twist around and around one another to form thick rope-like cords. These cords then hurtle at Victor, forcing him to jump and spring off of the walls and ceiling while at the same time trying to sense the source of the Chaos. One cord does catch Victor around his left arm. It then swings him against a wall, leaving a Victor-sized imprint in the plaster. Vic quickly regains his balance and cuts the cord midway to land safely again on the edge of one of the giant wash basins. As if that weren't enough, suddenly the water filled basin shudders, showering Victor in water. A water shape lunges at him and sucks his legs and lower body downwards. He grabs the edge of the basin and with all of his strength, causing the edge to twist and bend inwards, Victor manages to keep himself from being completely pulled down. He clambers out, slashing several times at the water for good measure but it seems to have reverted back to normal. Socks pelt him, wet knickers hit him in the face, bars of soap torpedo at him like stones and towels whiplash against his hardened skin, as Victor fights to remain mobile in an ever increasing tornado of clothes. A corset suddenly attaches itself to his waist and starts contracting with giant-like strength but he quickly tenses his skin causing the strings to snap. Then he sees it, a glimpse of red in the soap filled carnage, retreating through a ceiling vent. A few seconds later, the madness seems to die down and things start drifting to the ground, once again lifeless and inanimate. Victor leaps up and into the vent, squirming through it like a snake in pursuit of the red attacker. It isn't long before he sees it again, drifting around a bend. When he gets there he sees another open vent, but too small for him to get through. Below him is the private room of one of the senior female students of blue house called Lucy Dipple. This is what he sees. Victor
sees Lucy, fast asleep in bed in the room on her own. At first glance everything
appears normal but to Victor's heightened senses, he knows it isn't. Something
is moving beneath the bed sheets, working its way up Lucy's body.
It is then that Victor sees Sinsifel's stunning red dress resting perfectly over Lucy's own nightdress. Things happen next in a flurry of motion; Lucy's body leaps at Victor executing a range of lethal open palm strikes and kicks. Victor is taken aback by the ferocity and skill of the innocent girl's attack and forced to defend, but one well placed kicked sends him careening into Lucy's book shelves. A shout from next door of "Lucy, what's going on?" is drowned out by the possessed girl grabbing her own bed and flipping it up to trap Victor like the ham in a wall and bed sandwich. The path of least resistance proves to be through the bed rather than out and around it so Victor pushes his claws through the mattress and the bed quickly crumples around him. He starts retaliating, but with extreme caution - It's obvious that it is the dress that is the problem, not the girl, so Victor aims for the red material whilst trying not to injure Lucy or cut her. A major unarmed fight ensues as Victor is batted around the room like a ball. Victor is injured but his regeneration keeps him going. A well placed slash here and slash there starts to unravel the dress and throw Lucy off balance until finally, after demolishing the entire room and half the ceiling, Lucy stands completely naked, but uninjured, atop a pile of lifeless red tatters and rubble. She starts to fall so Vic catches her just as the door falls from its frame into the corridor and a dozen teenage frightened girls peer in. What they see fuels the gossip wheel for several weeks to come. The
Aftermath
As Victor seems to have been the only one to "see red" so to speak and recognise Sin's dress as the cause of it all, what will Victor do? Will he report it all to the other prefects and Mermerin? Will he cover it up to protect his daughter? Will he investigate further but discreetly? Will he not say anything or will he speak the complete truth and face any consequences? Sin's fashion show goes down extremely well and she actually earns points for her house, rather than loses them. As for
a cover story of how Victor ended up in Lucy's room and managed to demolish
it - Mermerin announces the next day at assembly the following ;- "Prefect
Victor was investigating noises coming from the steam pipes and happened
to come across a potentially hazardous blockage. A tremendous
Of course Sin and Valris won't buy this story so Victor will need to explain it personally to both of them. Does Vic know for
definite if the dress was possessed by a Narvay minion or self-powered?
Victor
is summoned to Mermerin's chambers.
As for Lucy, she keeps her head down about the whole situation - and you're right, she is perturbed. She knows how popular Valris is and just wants to forget the whole thing. After all, she feels a little weirded out after being possessed by a Chaos entity, even if she can't explain why. Victor gets more stick for it than she probably does... "Hi Victor, how is Lucy's pipe organ?" - "Hey Victor, going for a double dipple?" - "Victor brings the house down - wham bam, sorry I've blown your room up maam..." "Xenon Von Victor, the one man Duke of Demolition." Master
Talbery's
death is kept very discreet. In fact, two days later Mai is shocked to
see the young boy still walking around. When Mermerin is confronted on
the subject he taps his nose and says "Perhaps
you were mistaken. Perhaps Master Talbery wasn't completely dead after
all..."
Victor
and Sin discuss the red dress situ - Victor approaches her outside on a
bench. Young lad called Hubert is carrying her books. "Was
it a demon?"
3 days later is the fashion show. "I've got to leave." Sin cries and runs to Mermerin. Mermerin tries to calm her and summons Valris from class. Victor gets the brunt of Sin's emotional outage. Sin believes she has to leave for the good of everyone. Valris arrives and takes control. Orders Sin to sit down. Says that if Sin goes, she'll have to go too, which Sin definitely doesn't want as that would ruin Valris' chances of learning proper magic - which she knows her mum really loves. Sin asks for the chance of becoming a prefect. Mermerin says that it is possible, for a trial period. Val then tells Sin to study hard, get good grades and keep out of fights for 6 months - if she does, Vic and Val will consider her for Prefect trial - along with Tanni. "Is
Mermerin bothered?" - about Sin's chaos problems.
Val takes Sin outside to prepare a cover story for her emotional running through the school. Orders Victor to remain, ready for her tongue-lashing. Valris critisizes Victor's parenting style. "Sometimes you have to take charge, say black is black and white is white. Sit her down and don't give her any options or room for debate. You're the parent, she's the child. It's as simple as that." Agreement - "Don't need to tell Sin everything chaotic that happens - we need to protect her as much as possible as these things, as long as they have been handled safely, will just interfere with her ability to settle in and cause her too much worry. Do you think that she tells us every little chaotic thing that happens with the Eye. I severely doubt it, because we'd both have white hair by now..." says Valris. "Well, it was an interesting reaction..." says Victor, causing Valris to angrily leave the room. Week
passes - Sin hasn't to Victor once.
Mai
visits Vic and asks what the problem is. "Haven't
you ever bought a girl a bunch of flowers."
"I'm
in the middle of a ritual. I'm busy. I'll talk to you later."
Sin's wardrobe opens into the boys locker room. She can stand in it and spy out through a locker door at all the buff bodies. Sin's
latest song in Eyebite - "Depression".
First lesson ;- Learning Doku - blocks, sweeps, throws, kicks and strikes. A Universal martial discipline. Bit like Tai Kwon do. MERMERIN
QUESTIONS
Mermerin gives two options for Valris' freedom from Kutal - 1) Victor makes a bargain with Kutal for Valris' freedom. 2) Sinsifel uses the Eye to free Valris (extremely risky). Victor
- "Can students return for say 9 months after
graduating?"
|
| Month 9 | Valris starts work on a special, off the books project. She does not inform Mermerin, Gabriel or even Victor of what she is doing and carefully forges supply notes and writes off other materials as wastage. She begins practising several complex rituals in preparation. |
| Month 10 | The
Watcher
21st. Victor is alone, in the forest on Prefect Patrol, when he spies out of the corner of his eye, the mysterious silver armoured being that seems to have been showing a lot of interest in him lately. But when Victor explores where the being was standing, he finds no smell or sign of tracks leading away, just a pair of footprints where the being was standing. This is now the 6th time that Victor has seen the being and each time, it seems to vanish as soon as it is spotted. Even when Victor tries to pretend to not spot it, it still vanishes. As far as asking other people about it, no one else seems to see it. In fact, Erik will probably think Vic is losing his marbles. Months can go by without a single sighting. The "Watcher" makes no attempt to communicate. It just "watches." Ok, the very first
thing Vic will do, is to make sure other peeps can see the foot-prints
and not just Vic.
2nd Vic will go info
gathering:
End of Month 10, Day 27. 14.00 hours. Victor is in the swimming pool when he notices something at the bottom of the pool. He looks down and in the shadows at the very bottom, he sees the Watcher. (No air bubbles, no movement, just standing looking up at Victor). Victor immediately gets a mental lock on the entity. Even though it is only for a split second, Victor senses something with his mind, but then the lock breaks and as Victor dives, the sun gleaming off of the water dazzles him for a moment and the being disappears. Vic uses his meditation skill to relive the times he has sensed this being. What does he perceive while meditating: Firstly is this being alive? - does it have a heart beat, does it have a smell, does it have a spirit etc? What can Vic sense? Also how does it seem to disappear, by this I mean how does it look, eg does his feet disappear first or all of him at once? Does it seem to be by magic or science (like when Mordred would disappear when he had his mech-suit)? For that matter does this being even exist, is just a illusion? All
good questions. After meditating upon the split moment he made contact,
Victor ascertains the following ;-
Can he do a 'event
search' while meditating?
Victor's mind is not tremendously well structured - not like a hard drive, so doing a "file search" for moments he may have missed is not an easy task. The options are ;- 1) Find someone capable of going through memories (i.e. someone specialised in memory retrieval - There may be someone at the school). Even if he does find someone, they may still take a long time to sift through Victor's typical day, week, month etc. And there is the added complication of what this person might uncover while doing so. 2) Victor spends time meditating and selectively sifts through his own memories. This might take longer but is probably more practical. Using this, Victor at first uncovers the following - The Watcher has been seen 7 times in total and each time has been at least 1 month apart, sometimes more. Some ideas for trying to do a event search: 1, Just meditate upon the image and perceptions Vic has of the Watcher and let his mind do the rest. 2, meditate upon the image and perceptions Vic has of the Watcher and mentaly jump to each time Vic has seen him then jump to times he hasn't seen him. 3, meditate upon the idea/perceptions of the Watcher (but not sight) and go to each time. 4, mediatate about the 6 times Vic has seen the Watcher and compare each to look for any patterns (eg was there always some else there, was it always daytime, does the Watcher always look the same (including posture), is the Watcher always in the same spot in relation to Vic (eg is he always is 5 feet away at 3 O'clock from where Vic is facing), is the Watcher's always facing towards 'South' or 'North' etc. Interesting... Carrying out points 1), 2) and 3) Victor doesn't uncover any other moments. He does however get to relive some interesting and nostalgic moments at the school. 4) Looking for patterns, again Victor comes up with zilch. The Watcher appears at different times of the day, in different positions, but always a safe distance from Victor (at least 25 - 30 feet). Victor does find a feeling to link all appearances. Just before Victor sees the Watcher, he gets the strong feeling of being "watched". This feeling isn't so much Victor suddenly sensing the Watcher's presence but the Watcher doing something to give itself away. Expanding on this there is the distinct possibility that Victor is watched for some time and oblivious to it before the being finally shows itself (either on purpose or by accident). Spooky. Enough to get Victor a little paranoid. |
| Month11 | Mermerin
question time
Victor meets with Mermerin again to clear up a few questions... Where
is the school situation? Is it planet or some sort of plane (nexus)?
Are
there any lifeforms larger than foxes (excluding
Narvay's minions and people related to the school)
nearby?
Are
there any intelligent beings (excluding Narvay's
minions and people related to the school)?
What
will Vic find if he was to travel say a 150 miles in one direction?
|
| Month 12 | Boom
Butt
Explosion at Valris' lab. Victor suddenly senses Valris is in trouble along the Rings of Ithillan. He makes his excuses from Dorian's practice class and runs as fast as he can to Lake Antropy. When he gets there, he sees black smoke on the horizon coming from Valris' laboratory. As the ferry is slow in comparison to Victor's Vampiric swimming, he jumps into the water and torpedoes himself towards the island. Once there he rushes up and sees Valris sat outside the lab, her clothes singed and her face blackened from smoke. "Hi,"
Valris croaks. "Sorry. I blew something up."
After assessing the damage, Lab 1 is put out of operation for 2 weeks. Valris however is quite upbeat about it. "My father would crucify me if he knew I as blowing things up. He would say, 'If you don't know how to do it right, don't do it at all.' But if I listened to that, I'd never be able to experiment and try new things." Vic
looks down upon Valris accusingly and points at her says in a semi-serious
tone (serious enough to make her unsure if
he joking or not)
Later that day he draws up some blueprints for lab tools :- (you remember in school chemistry lessons the metal apparatus) metal rod pointing upwards with a weighted metal base stand with a another metal rod attached via a adjustable (wing nuts) clamp (for vertical adjustments) clamped length ways with a adjustable double fork grip on one/both ends. Plus another metal rod, say 3.4 feet long with a adjustable metal grip on one end etc. He also designs it so that the metal bases can be affixed to the floor (or stone tables if they being used). Val is using glass test tubes, being that glass is less reactive than metal better for chemical experiments. Victor works out how much material, points and labor is needed for a couple sets (Vic could save allot of time doing it himself in BStar form and getting Eric to help for the more complicated parts). He presents it all as a small project to the craft's teacher. The idea behind this apparatus is that 1, being metal, they will take quite abit of abuse (could even glass them to give them some acid protection). 2, they will help to protect the experimenters in as much as they will be 3 feet away when they mix the chemicals. After 4 weeks of part-time labor, Victor completes both sets to aid Valris' experiments. |
| Month 01 | Next
morning - graduates are announced and heads too. Victor is made head of
Red House, to his utter surprise, but then as Val points out, she and Sin
may still be told to leave.
Mermerin
lets them stay but announces that there are at least 100 new phantoms in
the area.
That night all Prefects bar Lucky, Sin and Vee (sprained ankle). Announcement - Madeline & Grant leaving for the Castle of Law Garden
shed phantom
Valris's
spell learning continues. She also continues drawing up enchantment plans
to help Victor against Tharizden.
|
| Month 03 | Sword demonstration to student body. Sin helps Victor with a sword fight story... Queen of the Kingdom of Gehenna. Young man, Lucius. Sword of Xanten. Bout of food poisoning causes a few people to get sick the next day but otherwise the display goes fine. |
| Month 06 | Tanni
has been going out most nights on duty. Victor attempts to talk to her,
to see if anything is wrong, but Tanni proves evasive.
Tanni
is focused on Martial Arts - sword skills, guitar playing, her band practice,
Prefect duty. Pottery.
Lucky cheated on Sin with a girl called Shanedra. Sin's dancing slippers. She's depressed. At one stage Lucky fell through her bed, through the floor and onto someone else in their bed instead. When stuff like that happens, how is it possible to have any sort of healthy relationship? Tabitha
comes and warns that Lucky has tried resigning.
Tanni
has Lucky tied up and hanging upside down in a barn.
Jansen and the Bullseye team attack Lucky and his entire dorm, including Spank, Rodney and Geldof - 3 other rumour spreading shites. Jansen is called up before a disciplinary board and threatened with expulsion. Instead he quits, saying he was the sole ring leader. Moreece
wakes Victor with bad news - that Jansen and the team have put the 4 boys
in hospital.
Jansen
- "You'll always have someone to champion
you..."
Jansen - "You're welcome to visit my World, but it might be a bit Chaotic for ya!" And
with that, Jansen leaves, led away by Mermerin.
Valris learns that Lucky tried but "He couldn't get in..." Valris goes to see Tanni. Tanni sees Sin and checks how she is. Later that week... King, 15 - of Victor's sword class comes to him to say Sin has been seen Sin suffers more emotional turmoil and flees her Chaos and Law class. She appears anguished. She is sat on Victor's rock and patch of landscaping, directly above the hole where Madeline and Jerry interrogated her. "Do you think it's possible for a Servant of Law to be friends with a Servant of Chaos?" Sin - "Tanni and I kissed..." As Sin drops this bombshell, Valris inwardly screams and struggles to come to terms with it. She contemplates finding Lucky and meting out her own punishment for what the little bastard has done. Valris plans on finding a perfect boyfriend for her but Victor doesn't want her to interfere. Val is low on blood and energy after repeated rituals and spells - basically strung out. 9th month marker with Garion and a great deal of progress has been made. Note - Victor has a tremendously powerful spirit and aura and has had for many years. However, during this whole time his aura has simply been set to "receive", allowing him to pick up on magic or strange supernatural feelings in his 30 foot radius (10 foot inner aura). Garion begins teaching Victor how to master his aura as an extension of his will - which in turn leads to very interesting abilities. Teaching
starts by Garion studying Victor and asking Victor lots of questions. Victor
tells Garion everything.
Vic aura spot - a large rock promontory sticking up in the air. Val accompanies Vic with a picnic basket. Learn marble and then bowl, water, leaf... After
4 months Victor returns to Garion...
As House captain Vic gives a rousing Bullseye speech and uses his aura control to enhance everyone's team spirit. He nearly causes a small school riot, but reigns it in before going too far. Victor
turns a small stone to dust by POW striking it.
Aura hold on Bigby - Garion's pet dog. One afternoon, Victor is sat with Valris. Valris is holding a book in between her toes while she braids her hair. Victor asks her how he can "drain" Tharizden's minions with his own spirit. Is it possible? Valris - "Perhaps, the next time you encounter them, you will strike with more spirit rather than just your physical side." 7th month marker. |
| Month 07 | Tanni
and Sinsifel. The days after...
Vic gets white noise when he tries picking up on Sin's aura feelings towards Tanni - caused by Mermerin's extra strong protection pendant. Victor discretely stalks his daughter, but is in complete denial that he's doing it. Victor checks a doorframe for woodrot as an excuse while he witnesses Sin innocently taking Tanni's hand in hers while they walk down the corridor. Kutal appears and calls Kaine a tosser. "He carries his sheath up his arse." Victor later catches Sin getting physically close to Tanni while she is in detention. It has now been 9 months with Caspian. Valris
invites Tanni and Sin to dinner at the lab to discuss a few things.
Sin - "Tanni is great. She's this real stable influence on me. She's got this dry sense of humour and she really listens and understands what I'm saying. I can talk to her about anything and when things happen with the you know what (Eye), she's like totally unphazed... nothing freaks her out. I haven't seen her cry once and there's me, a regular cry baby." Valris gives Tanni some clothes from her wardrobe - things she no longer wants. Valris suggests a "girly" evening the following week - using her natural vampiric charm. The following week Sin and Tanni arrive on the island and Valris tells them to get comfy. The girls talk about some books that they are reading - Sin puts on an impromptu bit of comedy acting which both Tanni and Valris find hilarious - Sin seems to have a hidden talent for comical impersonation. She targets Mermerin, Gabriel and several other characters at the school. The girls then eat sweets and Valris surprises Tanni with a bowl of homemade ice cream. "Wow. I see what you mean," Tanni says, tasting it for the first time. At the end of night though Valris bids them goodnight and watches as Tanni and Sin share the bed together. The two girls don't do anything other than tentatively hold one another, which makes Valris re-evaluate how she feels about the whole friendship. Valris finds herself actually liking Tanni and nearly changes her mind about what she is planning to do - her plan, simply be so nice and charming to Tanni that the young girl loses interest in Sin and begins fancying her instead. Caspian
is arrested by Wysteer a Servant of the Moon of Orias.
Caspian - "The Hand of Chaos." |
| Month 08 | Valris'
lab is attacked by a phantom. Valris blasts it but voices concern to Victor
that this is the first time she has seen something inside of her protections.
"I'm going to increase my wards. I don't want
any of these phantoms getting caught up in my experiments. There's no way
some pesky demonling is going to screw up my preparations!"
Valris'
plan to charm Tanni away from Sin doesn't seem to be working - much to
Valris' frustration. Tanni remains loyal to her feelings for Sin, despite
Valris' attempts. Sin does get a bit jealous but trusts Valris' intentions
- even if Valris herself doesn't. In the end, Valris decides to just quit
and try to be there if Sin needs her. She accepts that the situation isn't
going to go away and catches Tanni alone one evening... "Tanni,
I like you. I think you're helping Sin in ways that Victor and I can't
and I think the friendship you have with her is really special."
Then later - "What are you going to do when
it's time to leave?"
|
| Month 12 | End
of year.
Valris has learned in total around 50 new powerful spells and rituals in the last 18 months. One night out Prefect dutying, Sin finds herself in hand to hand against one of Naveh's Stalkers. She absorbs it's ability to hear dreams from a distance of up to 25 feet and penetrate. The demon is stunned and releases her just as Vee combusts the thing and Sin uses an enchanted knife to stab it. Sin and Tanni are advised to come and stay at the lab for a few nights while Sin gets used to the ability. End
of year dance is coming up.
Just
after Sin's latest stunning performance, Mermerin contacts Victor and Valris
through their pendants. "Victor, Valris, please
meet me as soon as possible at the front doors of the school. Something
has come up."
Valris'
face darkens. "Servants of Tharizden. They
have to be." She turns to Victor ; "We
need to go to the island - now."
About 10 minutes later, after a very speedy Vampire run and speed-boat row to the island lab, Valris stands in her work room giving Victor a very serious look. "You have to bare in mind that some of what I am about to show you is not complete. I was hoping to perfect some things first but it looks like it is going to be a long night." Valris looks into empty air and says "Portal." Suddenly a thin vertical line of light appears and unfurls to form a bright white 2 dimensional doorway. The
Rune Star
The Beginning, or The End? Session
22-04-06 - 1 hour session as voice very croaky from bad cold.
Current
game time ;- 9.30pm.
Valris and Victor head off of the island. 15 minutes have passed since Mermerin last contacted. Victor - suggests that Narveh may have been taken over by Tharizden's servants. How did the 3 black servants know Victor was there? How did they know his name? Dammit - says Valris. Leaving the boundary of Mermerin's power wouldn't do much good as Celesteen is on a Moon of Law, which would put Vic, Val and especially Sin at a disadvantage. No choice
- probably have to leave to protect the school.
What
are the options?
Mermerin
stands by Victor at the front gate.
Current
time 10.30pm. Dawn is at 5pm.
Vic
and Valris head outside, under the stars, to attempt to contact Nox.
Valris - "I'm not happy with the idea of bringing our fight down upon the school and endangering all the people that we've grown to know." Valris - "The one thing I know, is we are a family. Together, we overcome. And we're together. I don't care where we end up. Chaos World, Law World, Tharizden's back garden. As long we're together, we'll make the best of it. And it's probably wrong to say, but if Kit does have this all knowing prescience of events, she's not going to have us blunder off into a suicidal situation with no chance of getting through it." Valris
heads back to the island to "clean up"
- she collects some of her notes and destroys the rest in a fireball.
11.30 - Tanni and Sin arrive at the back of the concert hall. Victor takes them to a woodland glade off of the main path to the school. It has benches and a few wicker and wooden statues. It also has a lamp hanging from a tree. Sin
has 6 suitcases and 3 bags and 1 large handbag. Tanni has one shoulder
bag.
30 minutes
later, Valris arrives on the scene.
Meet
Mermerin near the main gates. Mermerin is alone and his expression is grave.
Farewell to Mermerin - To Valris
- "You are without a doubt, a model student.
A paragon of what Celesteen stands for. I am proud to have known you and
to helped you. And I wish you ever success in your future endeavors. You
are a beautiful, intelligent and admirable teacher."
He kisses her hand.
Val - "It would have been nice to say goodbye to people, but its just too difficult." Midnight...
time to leap.
In the carriage for an hour. Valris shares with Victor how Sin pushed out the Wraith, discretely telling him by using her very quiet vampire voice.
Victor and the others are carried via the Carriage to Eternium to Castle Magdamorda, far in Eternium's future. Soldiers
are all dressed in black, flags, white flags with a black dragon emblem.
After the carriage transports them right through the beseiging army and into the castle, Victor and the others are met by Vorpan Hevelum, the Castle's 18th Level - Battle Mage. Inside the Castle is Soloman, a very aged one actually, who is in the last few hours of his life. Another battle mage called Haragen Magistra - mentions that he will be happy to answer any question later, if there is time. In to see Soloman, who is lying in bed. He looks several hundred years old, perhaps more and is surrounded by a menagerie of strange beings. Glowing woman called Merriti, Green gaseus creature with Tendrils, Stone head hovering nearby too, plus Peter Pan flying around the lampshade. Outside is his Son, Mordenkain, an Arch Wizard of tremendous power who seeks his father's secrets. Tharizden's servants offer Mordenkain help in attacking the castle. Mordenkain storms the place. Solomon gets Valris to read from the Mysterium - a spell called "Eternium" - Will return everyone in the spell's area of effect to anywhere in Eternium's history - any realm, any time, any place. The time and place do not have to be exact as the spell is quite intuitive. Soloman directs Victor to a Spell Scroll. If Valris reads it, it will open up a portal. Only one person can enter through it. And only that person can return. It opens directly inside a hidden Mountain and at the entrance of Soloman's Vault. Over the years he has moved most things out of it and redistributed them to others but a few things remain ;- Victor
fails vs a Divine Identification spell at 20th level.
Victor flies into the Sphere of Torment. Excessive bleeding - Cracking of right leg. Piece of spine broken. Pain... Agonising pain.... Leg armour crumbles when Lifebane hits it. The Jixyliah is continuing to reform despite every attack of Dusk. This is because it has mimiced the ability of the Ring of Agog. Is the Guardian defeated? "What
would happen if I poked it in the eye," wonders
Sin.
Valris
reads the ritual of Eternium and all 4 travel away from Soloman's castle.
Soloman's
Forbidden Vault.
