For instance, he materializes from Kutal's portal in an underground rail tunnel and has to run pretty fast to avoid the next mono train hurtling towards him. out of water.
Victor is unable to come to terms with all the changes around him - his supernatural hearing can pick up electricity passing through the walls, radio waves filling the air with deafening sounds and if that isn't enough, the sounds of 250,000 people (over a hundred times more than he has ever been near) going about their everyday lives. His senses ready to explode, Victor stumbles through the railway station noticing strange things like lights, briefcases, waste bins, escalators, odd fashions, strange languages, tv screens and portal stations (to transport someone from one place to another). After reaching the street,
he continues stumbling along through the strange city, trying to keep a
grip on his sanity.
Aged 23. Brown haired, green eyed. Works as a courtesan. Victor spends the day sleeping in her wardrobe, having strange dreams of Mandy doing stuff like cooking, getting dressed and watching tv. |
| 10/11 | Of
Depravity and Purity
The next night Victor hunts and ends up killing a few people for their blood. Whilst abroad on the rooftops, he senses something watching him. When he demands for it to reveal itself, a young woman's voice speaks inside his mind. She introduces herself as Kit Myst and asks what he is. As he's still depressed, he confides in the disembodied voice, amazed when an illusion of a young blonde haired woman appears nearby. Obviously equipped with a powerful mind, this young woman finds Victor fascinating and against her better judgment gives him an image of where she lives if he ever wants to visit. He then goes back to
Mandy's and watching a bunch of movies - including one Vampire movie called
"Appointment
with Dr. Death."
Victor has a vision of Valris; she appears to be deep underground about a hundred miles out of the City of Mission and entombed in a block of opaque crystal. Kneeling in front of her is a completely charred figure. This figure has not only lost its skin, but its eyelids, fingernails, hair and genitalia. The only thing that appears intact is its pair of fangs. As it turns to look
up at him, his dream suddenly ends.
|
| 11/11 | The
Black Monk.
Victor watches some of Gore TV - hosted by Janus Mc Flynn until Mandy returns. Minutes after she enters, all hell breaks loose. Flying like a missile through the wall, narrowly missing Victor's head comes Sabare. Victor manages to leap backwards and out of the window but Sabare follows like a super automaton. They fight, throwing the entire street into turmoil with water hydrants spraying, cars swerving, traffic piling up and explosions rocking windows and walls. With approximately nine dead, twenty two injured, an ambulance en route and two police cars screeching down the pavement calling for backup, Victor finds it hard to concentrate. The fight lasts about 7 seconds, resulting in Victor passing out. |
| 12/11 | Sabare beats Victor
because his blood is more powerful (having
drunk of Valris over the centuries), but makes
a bad error in judgment. He thinks Victor is yet another snooping Devil,
intent on stealing Valris or the treasures of Alfar. It has happened a
few times before – a Devil using it's powers to explore the ruins, scrying
the area or sending people to excavate. Each time, Sabare has come forth
and utterly destroyed anything in his path, burying the tomb deeper and
deeper underground.
One of the last blood stars to still live in Alfar, he was once a devout monk and follower of Abraxus, but over the last 1000 years has gone utterly insane. He believes the End of the World should have happened 1271 years ago when Kutal arrived. . When the bomb went off, destroying Alfar and nearly all it's demonic population, Sabare was hideously burned and mutilated. He survived by crawling to Valris' tomb and drinking some of her blood. Sabare has never met an active Vampire before (not a true Vampire like Victor, Valris or himself). He doesn't even know that Vampire's can regenerate as he has never been harmed. His burnt skin refuses to heal because it was too extensively damaged when he became a Vampire, leaving him stuck that way for a very long time. Also, as he has considered Valris to be a holy font, he has only taken small amounts of her blood - just enough to sustain him. He believes ONLY SOMEONE OF UNTAINTED BLOOD CAN CALL FORTH THE BLOOD GOD, knowing nothing of the outside world and not caring either. Because Sabare thinks Victor is “just” a devil, he “kills” him, but doesn't do anything else. If Sabare knew Victor could regenerate from “death”, he would carry Victor's body somewhere and let it dissolve. However Sabare's insanity is Victor's saving grace because after an out of body experience, Vic wakes up in the city morgue. |
| 13/11 | Back
from the Dead.
A detective sergeant called Fendar Mardok takes up the case, investigating the strange fight outside Mandy's apartment. Other interested parties, as you would expect, the Devils – Lumini representing the SS and Quill representing the Lodge. Mandy is being watched by Quill. Lumini prefers a more direct approach, visiting Mandy after the police and offering her money and threats in return for information. She tells Lumini everything, succumbing to his “charms”. He then erases his appearance from her mind and reports back to the SS. Two goons (Artek
and Palis) are sent by the SS to retrieve
Victor's body. Both half demons, they sneak in at night, hiding their true
natures behind “normal”
appearances (Only people sensitive to aura’s
can perceive them,) and arrive just after
he awakens. Victor breaks his way out of the morgue, confronts the two
goons draining both of them dry before stumbling onto the street.
Krishnin takes Victor to the Cyrus building - home of Cyrus Enterprises (a subsidiary of Chrysalis). There they meet with Krishnin's contact, a senior scientist (and a bit of whizz) called Cylo Leen. Into modern Eternium rock music, Cylo isn't your typical scientist but does impress Victor with his knowledge. Examining the strange key card Victor took from one of the goons, Cylo says "It's the most complex piece of micro engineering I've ever seen. This goes way beyond anything currently on release and I like to think i'm privy to some of the tasty stuff. It's got to be some sort of prototype hardware from Chrysalis itself !" Meaning nothing to Victor,
Cylo tries to activate the card by running a low electrical current through
some of the thing's I/O ports. The result is spectacular.
Victor pounces on the
creature and stabs it through the head with his claws before it can do
too much damage. At that point it vanishes, leaving Cylo and Caleb in a
state of shock.
Taking Caleb's telephone
number Victor heads back into the night, alone. There he watches the people
of Mission from high above its streets, basking in their mortal world and
imagining himself among them, leading a simple life. It is this desire
for something down to earth and untainted by blood that brings him to Kit
Myst's door.
Midnight
Reminisce
Sabare's paranoia of
losing his Queen has over the years caused him to develop a heightened
mental awareness. This awareness alerts him to Kit's presence and allows
him to snap off a tiny part of her mind. She feels a brief stab of pain,
waits a few minutes and then tries again, noticing that Sabare is no longer
in the tomb. A little worried she tries locating him.
Kit suggests they wait till the creature is a lot closer and then that she teleport both of them to Valris' tomb. Maybe Victor could awaken Valris and then face the blackened creature together. Animating
the Queen.
First he tries breaking
the crystal with Sinsifel but it doesn't even scratch, so he tries a more
subtle approach instead. Cutting his finger and then Valris' (noticing
her regeneration is now more powerful than his) he puts the two together
so their blood intermingles. The effect is instantaneous. As the blood
fuses together he makes contact with Valris' mind and shares experiences
with her.
Sabare descends, overjoyed
(or as overjoyed as a lunatic can be)
to see his Queen alive and moving. He takes a step towards Victor, ready
to
sacrifice the infidel, but Valris puts up her hand to stop him. She recognizes
Sabare, half remembering his presence over the centuries, watching over
her. She tells them both to
"get along."

| 14/11 | Snared
in the Technological net.
Victor's naiveté about technology proves his undoing. The Soul Sanctuary has matched his fingerprints and DNA (which is mighty peculiar to say the least) to the battle in the streets, the morgue, the death of the two goons and the fire at the Cyrus building (he was caught on security camera). Because of film footage, scientific evidence and anomalous test results on his blood and skin, Victor has suddenly shot to the top of the SS's wanted list. It doesn't take them long to pinpoint the key card Victor is carrying in his coat pocket and while Kit is out getting some groceries, they send in a magically outfitted S.W.A.T team to take him down. When Kit returns the last thing she remembers before passing out from knockout gas is her dog lying dead with a hole in its head. Poor mutt. |
| 15/11 | The
Importance of being a lab rat.
Victor is kept unconscious all day and night with a lot of gas and drugs - enough to knock out a small herd of elephants. The SS Scientists analyze his biology and genetic structure, running hundreds of tests. Their results are inconclusive, reporting to Kalath - Head of the SS that Victor is an otherworldly being of enormous power. |
| 16/11 | Victor awakens to find
himself pinned to metal table in an empty room. A single camera is pointed
at him from the ceiling and a voice crackles out of a nearby speaker; it
is the voice of Dorkus, Kalath's chief biologist.
Dorkus asks Victor a lot of questions, using a robot arm to inflict blow torch damage and an ultraviolet light ray to cause blistering when Victor gives cocky answers. Kit is nowhere to be seen and in desperation Victor calls out with his mind to Valris (though she doesn't hear him because of the SS's shielded and warded walls). When Kalath himself comes to continue the interrogation, Victor is a bit more forthcoming. He tells Kalath that he isn't the Midnight King but that he has come from the past. After Kalath has finished for a while, Victor is left alone with his wounds. Meanwhile Valris is exploring the New World. She has tremendous power now, but doesn't feel too alive, flying around and learning what she can of things. Eventually she knows she will return to Victor as he is the only thing remaining of the old world, but for the time being she enjoys her freedom. She tries approaching one of the Angels, but frightens the poor woman half to death. She easily reads its mind, probing one of the Soul Sanctuary's portals as well. "Let
me lead you by the hand"
Kûtal shows Victor
a vision of Eternium in the future; a world devastated by war and completely
barren of life. "This is Eternium after Tharizden
has finished with it. Tharizden was created by the Lords of Law and Chaos
to be being of pure evil and destruction. He doesn't know how to create,
how to be merciful or how to negotiate. He only knows how to destroy and
utterly consume. With Chaos and Law at least you've still got something
left at the end of it all - but with Tharizden, nothing remains. He is
the Devourer of Worlds."

| 17/11 | Kalath's
Vision
Victor rides up 32 floors in an elevator, arriving at the penthouse suite of the Soul Sanctuary HQ. There he is met by a dwarf called Umlo, dressed in a bright red suit. He offers a glass of red or white wine and shows him to some comfortable seats. Within moments Victor is joined by Kalath and his bodyguard Keth. Kalath is dressed in a simple dark blue suit and shades. Keth, (standing just over 6’6” is swathed in black robes, with only his head exposed). Kalath does not dismiss the guard escort, preferring to keep them close by, guarding the only visible exit. Kalath remains polite, asking a few more questions but not expecting (or getting) any answers. Eventually the SS leader decides that Kit and Victor should have a chance to freshen up before dinner (especially as Victor is coated in blood again). Shown to two adjoining rooms, two floors down, Kit puts Mandy to bed and comes back in to see Victor. Not convinced of Kalath's sincerity, Victor has been trying to listen to Kalath's conversations with his far-ear but run into some sort of magical barrier. Something in the way the SS building is made seems to interfere with his ability. He decides to get some shut eye with Kit watching over him as he does. When he awakens, she has had an idea. Testing the barrier around the building with her mind she thinks she can escape taking Mandy with her, but the strain breaking the barrier might be too much for her to come back for Victor. Victor tells her to do it and Kit reluctantly accepts this is the best course of action. With Kit and Mandy safe, Victor intends on taking Kalath down. Kit vanishes taking Mandy with her, just as Kalath's dwarf comes to fetch them for dinner. After commenting on Kit's strange disappearance, Kalath of the Soul Sanctuary shares his vision with Victor; "One day, all the world will be linked by portals… portal technology will spread like a disease across all the continents until the portals take on a life of their own… I discovered the portal technology about 30 years ago. The first portal machine was larger than this building but it was sufficient for me to meet with one of the Overfiends (or Demonic Entities if you prefer). Her name was Sarasanja and she offered me everything I could possibly want. Now our portals can literally be portable (a simple relay unit can target a localized portal accurately down to five feet.) We are nearing the time when machines will no longer be needed. The portals will sustain themselves, as each portal releases a field of Null-energy, feeding other nearby portal. The world will become full of portals causing the fabric between this plane and the next to tear and all the creatures waiting on the otherside to rush in and devour. This place will be the only Sanctuary for souls. We will be free to travel to other realms of existence. For the sacrifice of this one, we will gain countless more. Eventually each world will be invaded, but our own numbers will swell. The greatest minds and powers will join the Sanctuary. Sarasanja has promised us 100 years of complete freedom on each world. Think, that means perhaps thousands of years. The price…. Those worthy to survive will, those pitiful existence's, those who work, sleep and do little else, will be wiped out. It's going to happen whether we like it or not Victor, so we might as well save what we can." Victor thinks Kalath is insane. Uninvited
guests
Stunned to have his security compromised, especially 26 floors above street level, Kalath activates his own portable portal device and vanishes. His bodyguard Keth first backs up to get some room, then starts summoning some powerful demons with simple hand gestures. Victor finds himself confronted by two nasty creatures seeking to cover Keth's escape. One, a huge demonic giant, begins stamping cracks in the floor and hurling furniture around like cannonballs. The other, a multi-armed bone swords woman, dazzles poor Victor with a blinding flurry of attacks. Victor shouts to Sabare for help, but Sabare just leans against the wall, watching. In truth, Sabare is quite happy to watch Victor get carved up, swallowed and spat out again. Realizing this, Victor concentrates on the matter at hand. He manages to kill the sword woman with Sinsifel then luckily knock the giant out of the window, standing with Sabare to watch it hit the pavement with a satisfying squelch. Now Victor should have made his escape then and there, but Victor being Victor, he chose to hang around talking to Sabare, trying to provoke some sort of answer. It gave Kalath's troops enough time to move something into the elevator. Ping.
The bomb blast destroys three floors of the
Soul Sanctuary building. A trifle excessive on the part of Kalath's security
but as Kalath later comments to his bodyguard Keth, "An
explosion can never be too loud or too bright."

| 20/11 | Bits
and Pieces
Lying unconscious on the roof top, Victor is exposed to sunlight for 3 days. During this time, Sinsifel protects him from most of the sun damage but his skin still darkens into a rich tan. |
| 21/11 | Amazed to still be alive, even if he has got great big holes all over his body, Victor crawls off of the dented roof and starts hunting blood with a seemingly unquenchable thirst. He's feeding for two now, with a very hungry "baby" Sinsifel inside of him. |
| 22/11 | The SS announce plans
for their Mega Portal - A portal has been built 100 miles north
of the city that will enable smaller portals to be created anywhere within
a 250 mile radius without the need for portal
stations etc. People will be able to book portals to appear in their living
rooms, transport them to work and then back again. It is a major breakthrough
but received with mixed feelings. Many feel the SS have a secret agenda
(and they're right) that involves the portals. Victor knows the truth.
Queen
of Shades
The
Future Incarnate
Victor goes on the alert as a huge crash resounds behind him. About fifty feet away something has dropped out of the sky like a stone and crumpled the stone work of the roof with its landing. The being stands over seven feet tall, encased head to foot in the most bizarre and otherworldly armor Victor has ever seen. This is Mordred of Chrysalis wearing a prototype A.I. Cyber-suit called Farmegian and he's out looking for "Abnormalities" in the Reality Cascade. Seeing Victor as a definite "abnormality"
(and who wouldn't), Mordred and Farmegian speak as one (both minds, flesh
and liquid circuitry inter linked), "Who and what
are you?"
The
Cabal
After a dozen more attempts narrowing her
location down, Victor ends up about fifty miles north of the city on a
country estate. The only building in the area is a large manor house with
windows and doors unable to keep out Victor out. He enters, stalks around
and locates where Kit is being held, only to find her mind being besieged
by several other minds.
They are members of the Cabal, a group of psychics operating in secrecy against the Law and the teachings of the SS. Led by Astrad, a visionary of great mental power, the Cabal believe that psychics are the next evolutionary stage of human development. They want to harness all of the mind's potential and unlock all of its secrets, making Kit and her unique abilities (like teleportation and long range illusion) invaluable. "We must get her back, at all costs. She is the key to everything we are and can be. She is key to our mental chains. With her on our side, showing us the way, we will make the Laws," declares Astrad, ordering his members to mentally pursue Victor back to the city. |
| Victor arrives back in the safety of the
city but Kit is still unresponsive. Her mind has been
"raped" and pressured by several minds like butcher's knives. It
is a wonder she has continued resisting, a testament to her own sheer mental
strength.
But things are far from over. After taking shelter in an attic, Astrad and Strombard of the Cabal set fire to the entire building. As it is Midday, Victor has trouble getting down to the ground floor, shielding himself from the windows. However the fire spreads too rapidly threatening to overrun him, so he is left with no choice but to flee out into the street, carrying Kit with him. They both wind up in hospital. Kit continues to be mentally bombarded by the Cabal; tossing and turning deliriously in a hospital bed on the 4th floor. There, on the critical ward, room 3, Victor is visited by Kutal disguised as a Doctor. Kutal suspends time in the room, forcing Victor to reconsider his existence and overcome his enormous depression. |
|
| 23/11 | The
Cosmic Court & "Looking for Forgiveness in Far away places."
During his very long stay in the hospital room (a stay that seems like weeks but is in fact a mere instant of Time), Victor and Kûtal discuss many things. Most of these things stem from Victor feeling inadequate for the challenge at hand, his misguided hatred of Chaos and his moral and ethical confusion over drinking blood and killing people. Kutal cuts like a scythe through this quagmire of emotions ;- Kutal's
Hard truths
Kutal accuses Victor of feeling guilty - It's Victor who feels he deserves punishment so Kutal obliges, transporting Xenon to the Cosmic Court. There he meets Lartus of the Principles of Forethought (his accuser) and Judge Kutal, Father Kutal and "Defending Kutal". After a great deal of recap and observations about Victor, Victor is accused and found guilty of the following;- Guilty - Of breaking
his own beliefs, moral codes and codes of conduct.
They offer Victor the chance to redeem himself.
They call him a Knight of Fallen Candor and
provoke him into redefining his own existence by swearing upon a Knight's
oaths.
Kutal says
The
Codes of Conduct.
1) Defeat Tharizden
1) Respect women and
treat everyone as equal.
Returning from the Cosmic Court, Victor now feels a bit better about himself. He says good-bye to Kutal and sets about escaping the hospital before anyone comes to ask awkward questions. Knocking a policeman unconscious and donning the uniform, Victor heads upstairs to try and find Kit. When he finds her she is still in a bad way with three of the Cabal assailing her mind. He doesn't move her until the following night, hiding inside a ventilation duct until his disappearance has blown over. |
| 24/11 | Meeting
the Eternal Key.
The next night, about to climb along the outside of the building to Kit's hospital room, Victor notices someone walking up the wall and crouching under Kit's windowsill. It turns out to be Minnow (a particularly thief like incarnation with powers of wall walking, gravity manipulation and best of all, a gift from Donablu, Lord of Law - Total power over all Locks in the Universe ! This Minnow is literally "The Eternal Key". Minnow threatens the three Cabal minds in Kit's room, convincing them to leave, buying some time to move Kit. Together, Victor and Minnow climb / walk their way down to street level and across to Minnow's high tech car (a car he stole by over-riding the onboard security systems as the Eternal Key). Victor needs blood, so examining Sinsifel, Minnow sheds some light on the Chaos sword's abilities. Victor learns how to use Sinsifel's Law and Chaos sense to "see" trails / tracks left in the air / planal fabric. In this way, Minnow cruises around the city following Victor's directions until they find Demons. The first thing they find is a Chaos gargoyle that dives for Victor, flattening him into a bloody smear on the sidewalk. When Victor eventually regenerates he jumps up to meet the creature in midair and takes its head. The next batch of Chaos they track down resides in a Night club called The Garage. Victor goes in but feels he is outnumbered as more and more Chaos servants turn up for a Midnight meeting. Minnow however has different ideas. While Victor looks after Kit (stuck in the back seat of the convertible and thoroughly confused), Minnow enters the club with his short sword and starts a fight. Immune to normal attacks (like fists and metal bars) Minnow soon piles up the bodies attracting the attention of the club's bosses. By now though, the police have turned up outside and the club has been evacuated in a stampede of panic, causing Victor to re-enter the club. Victor doesn't wait around, taking down 3 out of the 4 Chaos servants before chasing the fourth into the sewers and running the man through. They drive around Mission for a few hours,
eventually stopping and getting a suite in one of the city's poshest hotels.
Minnow has by now discovered cash point machines and again, using his power
as the Eternal Key, gets unlimited access
to money.
Once settled (Minnow already wanting to fiddle with the hotel's en suite computer system), Victor decides to find the Cabal members tormenting Kit's mind. Using his recently learned power of "seeker sense", he tracks their mental signatures back to an apartment building on the east side. Applying
pressure.
After Victor has gone, the man freaks out, waking his companions. An argument ensues but the leader of the Cabal, Astrad, calms things down. Suddenly Victor returns, spectacularly jumping through the window and showering glass across the room. Like an Angel of Death he again states his threat. This time the leader Astrad tries to stop him but Victor is too fast. Astrad's head rolls from Victor's steel like Blood star claws. The other Cabal members scream and cry like children, at this point, taking Victor's threat very very seriously. He lets them live but tells them to leave the city and never return. |
| 25/11 | The next night, Kit is feeling better but
still a long way from complete recovery. Minnow has been busy hacking into
the Soul Sanctuary's and Chysalis' computer systems (as
the Eternal Key he bypasses all security systems / passwords)
Victor leaves them both for a while to hunt. Whilst out he encounters a Demon Shuggan and learns what it thinks is going on in the city. It's revelations disturb Victor, who lets it live and go on it's way. According to the Shuggan, instead of everyone being slaughtered when its master arrives, demonkind and humankind will just swap bodies in a Great Shift. Demons will get to live with the fancy phones, fast cars, experience love, marriage, having children, growing old etc - all the things they don't have at the moment whilst in return, all of Eternium's human population will know immortality, demonic powers, other worlds, other realities and absolute freedom from society. Of course it does have its down sides too. Some demons don't want to get married, or work, pay taxes etc whilst a lot of humans will find being trapped in disgustingly ugly demon body with strange appendages and even stranger lusts not to their liking either. Minnow, Kit and Victor go out clubbing to the Steampipe. Getting completely pissed, Minnow makes contact with a dodgy chap who sells him a highly illegal lap top. (As Minnow is not of Eternium, his mind and body continuing to adapt to Eternium's reality. He is "remembering" skills and abilities as his soul settles in, the World literally filling in the blanks of his character as a result of the following paradox - he doesn't belong in existence but nevertheless exists.) A
Triangle one side too many.
Cruising the city again with Kit and Minnow, Victor follows Minnow's advice and tries to locate the Runestaff. Minnow says "It's a part of your heritage, like the sword of Dawn - Try searching for it with your heart and soul, not your mind." After a few failed attempts, Victor receives a vision of the staff, locked away in a display case. Only an obscure portrait coupled with Minnow's new computer skills help him pinpoint its location; the Sanctity Farms golfing club, founded in honor of Lord Kaspian Kalamar and the Rose Order. As the night is getting on and Kit has passed out, Minnow and Victor head back to the hotel. Once inside, Minnow lays a guilt trip on Victor, saying "Give the girl a break, (meaning Kit), sort this thing out between you and Valris. Because until you do, you're useless to me and everyone else. You're like a loaded gun in the hands of a blind man - focus yourself. Talk to Valris, find out the score and if need be, move on with your life." Minnow's words break through Victor's walls of indecision. Victor nods, lying down to send his mind along that intimate connection he shares with his fledgling. |
| 26/11 | Endless
love
Victor sends his mind thousands of miles to
the strange Kalaymanye
jungle. Once there,
Valris freezes his mind so that it doesn't snap back to his body and they
talk over their relationship issues.
After a lot of soul
searching, Victor and Valris decide the following;- Valris will wait for
Victor to reach the same level of understanding about life that she has.
She doesn't care if this takes Victor a hundred or a thousand years. "I'm
not going anywhere Victor. When you are ready, find me. But when you do,
make sure it's for keeps."
|
| 27/11 | The first thing Xenon does when he wakes
up is tell Kit how he feels about Valris. Kit is understanding and still
happy to keep Victor as a friend. Then Victor goes out for a spot of hunting.
The
Chaos Car
As he watches it pass, the side of the car gleams with supernatural light revealing a woman's face pressed up against the metal. It's enough for Victor, who immediately jumps into the back of the car. Things get even more wierd when a woman's hand writhes beneath the surface of the seat. Evidently alive, this Chaos car seems to have consumed the two women, so Xenon shoves Sinsifel into the upholstery to see what's inside. He doesn't expect what happens next. The entire car convulses in pain, crushing its fleshy seats up against his chest in an effort to swallow him. He cuts and slashes causing the car to crash into the central barrier and knock another car off the road as well. Then, leaping clear, he watches the chaos car from a distance. It tries running him over but he shoves his sword into its engine, causing black viscous oil to seep out as the car finally dies. He saves the driver's of both cars, takes some blood from both men and then leaves them for the ambulance. When he gets back to the hotel, via a dip in the river to wash off most of the car's goo, Kit and Minnow send him to the shower. Minnow talks about his theories on Duridiam - the metal threaded throughout the structure of the Soul Sanctuary building. It is the Duridiam that will cause the entire building to resonate at the same frequency as the Sanctuary's portal - thus enabling the whole building to plane shift. Victor, Kit and Minnow prepare to raid the golf club and steal the Runestaff. Kit first scouts the place out with her mind, pinpointing where the alarms are and what the security guards are doing. When everything is clear, Victor and Minnow enter through the front door (Minnow unlocking and locking the doors behind them) and take the staff from its display cabinet. As soon as he grasps the staff, Victor receives a vision. He sees that the staff is made up of runes and each of those hundreds of runes made up of a thousand more and so on. The vision gives him a headache but symbolizes how the Runestaff is its own Universe of Complexity. Cosmic
Visionary = Paracetamol.
Some of the visions...
Eventually Victor discovers how to get visions of the 4 Skarrion Time Stones - the stones Kutal has told him to get in order to defeat Tharizden. One stone appears like an 8 sided prism, another like a cube, the third like a sphere and the fourth like an oval - all 4 are transparent and diamond like. Only after meditating on the images does Victor gain some inkling of where one of the stones is. Then combining Minnow's skills at the computer with his gut feelings and extrasensory experiences, they narrow the stone's location down to the northeast of Mission and a technologically advanced business estate. Victor comments on the staff, "Maybe it's all just some sort of Balance symbolism. Maybe everything is connected to the Balance in some way or other...." Minnow cries out, "Praise be, he has seen the light !" |
| 28/11 | After a hard day trying to find out what's
going on on the business estate, Minnow makes a breakthrough with his research.
He discovers that on the 9/11, all the city's backup power generators were
turned on and directed towards the estate by order of the Government.
He and Victor have a brainstorming session to try and figure out what is going on between the Soul Sanctuary, Chrysalis Enterprises and the Rose Order; they don't make much progress. Minnow plants a message deep inside the highest level of security in Chrysalis' mainframe saying, "Mordred, we must meet with you. We are servants of the Cosmic Balance and know things about yourself and Chrysalis, the monks, the Skarrion time stone and Kalath's plans for Eternium. Come alone to the Sanctity Farms Golfing club, by the lake at Midnight, tonight." Meeting
Mordred
Mordred is annoyed; it isn't every day that someone hacks their way into the Chrysalis mainframe, gaining access to all their top level plans and technological breakthroughs. The first thing he does is demand who did it and how. Minnow admits to everything
but not exactly how. What really gets Mordred's attention is when they
mention the Time stone. "You will come to
my headquarters. Both of you and your psychic companion,"
says Mordred, glancing skyward to where Kit is watching mentally.
|
| 29/11 | The
Time Portal.
1.15 pm Kit, Minnow and Victor drive up to the strange business estate. The gate guard waves them through to a second gate protected by a humanoid robot wielding a gigantic blaster rifle - It soon becomes obvious that Chrysalis have some highly advanced technology - far beyond anything they've seen so far. They are met by a geeky scientist type called Mason who leads them through several chambers and levels of decontamination. At the end they put on special suits, gloves and hoods before proceeding into a high tech flight control center filled to the brim with computers and monitoring systems. Ignored by the vast majority of the hundred or so scientists present, Victor and Minnow nose around and ask questions. It soon becomes apparent that something is amiss in the control room. Some scientist blurb;-
Victor has only been in the room about thirty
seconds when;-
Minnow learns that the Skarrion stone started playing up at exactly the same time Victor entered this Timeline - the 9/11. After decades of research into the stone without a single blip from it, suddenly three weeks ago it came alive. Now, after weeks of experimentation it miraculously stabilizes - something they've been trying to accomplish round the clock for 3 weeks. It is no coincidence that Victor is in the room. Mordred arrives on the scene, asking what's
going on. When Professor Kirkrin explains,
Mordred tells Kirkrin to push for 100% stability. "Go
for it Kirkrin. We may not get another shot at this."
The scientists then activate an interplanal portal in the adjacent Core room and begin evacuating people from its vicinity. Mordred wastes no time, seals his armor and steps into the Core. Now during all this, Minnow, Victor and Kit have pieced a few things together. A scientist has said, "This is no ordinary portal. This is a portal in Time!" Not wanting to see his Time stone used by anyone else, Victor makes a move for the core as well. Just at the massive door is about to seal shut, he picks up Kit and leaps through the narrow crack after Mordred. Minnow shields them from the robot's photon cannon but is trapped on the otherside of the collossal door. Putting Kit down, Victor finds himself facing
off against Mordred.
Mordred follows him through the portal. Meanwhile Minnow uses his power as the Eternal Key to break the seal on the massive door. As he does, sirens start sounding and alarms flashing. "Evacuate the area. We have a core breach in progress!" booms out over a tannoy. "Oops," goes Minnow, grabbing Kits hand and heading for the portal. The two of them jump in moments before the entire core destabilizes and explodes. So ends Xenon Von Victor's
adventures in 1271 4A
