The Night is deep, But the Dark is deeper.
History The sword Dark Star was forged by an ancient race of beings called the Axel; existing during the Time of the Titans, the Axel lived in fear on one of Eldahar's many realms, under constant attack by the Alfar, their population gradually sent off to fight distant wars, their talent for manipulating metal with their minds turned into a force of destruction, rather than art. Outnumbered by the Alfar and their allies by nearly 10,000 to one, the Axel seemed destined to be just another slave race. Able to literally meld, shape and transmute metals by will alone, across sometimes great distances, the Axel were perfect to send to the fore of a battle and weaken enemy armour / weapons. But after several hundred years of abuse at the hand's of the Alfar, the Axel fought back by making a single sword - the instrument of their racial revenge. Dark Star was formed from an actual Dark Star, suspended in the Heavens above Axel's home realm. 20,000 Axel joined their minds and powers to manipulate the star and shape it into a weapon. The Alfar were known to fear darkness like nothing else, believing that their God - Moraynark lived in absolute Darkness and would one day blind all the Alfar and turn their proud race into pitiful scavengers. The Axel knew that by making a weapon like Dark Star, in a shape that they understood, the Alfar would be terribly afraid and leave them alone. So, realizing what would happen but willing to go to any extreme to gain their freedom, the Axel pulled the Dark sword down to their Realm. As it slowly moved closer, the weapon seemed to gradually smother the stars; one by one they winked out as the sword cut a dark swathe across the heavens. Eventually the sword reached Yonah, Realm of the Axel and as it fell from the sky, it extinguished the World's light, plunging the Axel forever into darkness. When the Alfar next returned to Yonah, they found an impenetrable dark so terrifying that many turned and fled immediately. Others who remained vanished without a trace as the Axel could still sense metal and use it to "see". For three hundred years, the Alfar attempted to retake Yonah but each time they found the darkness too stifling and their belief in Moraynark too terrifying to face. Finally the Alfar fought back in their own way, by sending a captured Titan Sphere to Yonah. As the Sphere expanded, erasing Yonah and the Axel from existence, one of the Axel said farewell to the Axel Manificat and portaled from the Realm. The Axel's name was T'chiron, chosen wielder of the Dark Star; his purpose now to destroy the Alfar, wherever he could find them. After wielding the weapon for two hundred years, plunging countless Realms into darkness, T'chiron finally died. The sword was lost for a time until finally turning up on Eldahar Prime during the 17th century. Instrumental in causing the War of Shad'ax'ell and used by the Shadow King - Moray (a name he chose for himself by deciphering part of the blade's inscription) to great effect, Dark Star finally met its match in a pitched battle against the spiritual might of ANU. ![]() Now broken into three pieces; two halves of blade and a hilt, the pieces are scattered across the Lands of the Far North with one in March, one in Dark Moon and the hilt in Dim Dale. If brought together by a 15th level + Enchanter, the three pieces can be reforged, gaining 75% of its original potency (85% on a special, 100% on a critical) The sword shows no sign of normal enchantment or magic, however it appears far from normal. It's surface seems to absorb light. Over time the Blade becomes more and more powerful, acting like a miniature Black Hole capable of sucking in all the Light of the World. When in one piece, the sword strikes as a +15% +5/+5 weapon. It is 5' in length and sized like a Bastard sword, making it unwieldy and cumbersome in combat. However as it automatically sucks in all light in a fifteen foot radius and no amount of light magic can penetrate its darkness, the wielder is normally safe from harm. The 3 pieces each have their own individual uses...

One day, Ithillan
- the Greatest Smith to ever live,
The Hand and Eye staff In its dormant form, this item appears to be made of a polished steel based alloy. Exactly 18 inches in length and one inch thick it displays a wave-like pattern down its length, identical to the pattern on the Quin-star (see below). The staff has a silver clenched fist at one end and a silver closed eye at the other. The staff telescopically expands and can separate into up to 5 pieces, each able to expand into slightly different staves. Both the Hand and the Eye can be willed to open. When the Hand opens it can hold / clasp other objects / items and fuse them into the staff so that they respond to the staff wielder and only the staff wielder. What ever the hand clasps, it will not let go. When the eye opens it allows the staff wielder to see through it, see magic, see Law, Chaos etc. The wielder can also channel spells through it. The main power of the eye though is its ability to hypnotise. Anyone gazing upon the eye falls under the control of the staff wielder – at 20th level. Staff 1 Complete
Resistance against Fire, x 3 Fire multiplier.
Ithillan’s Quinstar The Quinstar is a device of great power. 5 strike star
– The abiiity to spark 5 points and create a Nodal gateway into the Idiom.

Two First One Artefacts native to the World of Dayspear The Cradle of Night appears as a 3 foot long black chest with a complex opening / closing mechanism involving 3 overlapping circles of symbols that act as a combination lock. Whoever opens the chest and uses the power contained within it are forever altered, becoming a being of darkness. (See Darklings). The Cradle has the following powers ;- Primary power - Eternal Night. The Cradle releases darkness that blocks out the sun in an infinitely expanding radius. The darkness eventually forms a veil over the entire world. Inherently evil, this darkness causes plague, starvation (as plants need light to grow) and a neverending winter. If left long enough, all life on Dayspear would perish. Secondary power - Darkling Calling. Darklings can only exist in darkness. They do not need warmth, light or food to continue existing. They appear as two dimensional humanoids with long spindly arms and foot long spiky fingers. Darklings abhor light as it hurts them. They move extremely quickly, leaping from shadow to shadow in utter silence. During Dayspear's darkest hours (prior to the activation of the Cradle) Darklings were well known to prey upon campers or people lost away from their homes. Indeed, Darklings have a macabre fascination with human beings. Darklings often stick their fingers in people's eyes, ears and mouths or in open wounds and tear at their insides, trying to get a glimpse or touch of the only light that does not harm them - the light that appears as someone dies. The Cradle is capable of summoning thousands of Darklings. Tertiary power - Entrapment. The Dayspear is the opposite to the Cradle of Night. The Dayspear has the following powers ;- Primary power - Light of Glory. Legend says this power can only be activated once in every 1000 years. Secondary power - Anju / Ethereal Calling. The Wielder of the Spear can call upon the Anju / Ethereals. These beings are custodians of all that is light and good. They exist within light and move at tremendous speeds. Anju weave this light into the power of life, allowing them to restore flowers, land, crops etc into full health / bloom. A World full of Anju is a bountiful one indeed. Tertiary power - Spear of Destiny. By thrusting or attempting to throw the Spear and releasing one's grip on it, he or she chosen as its wielder causes a bolt of intense light to shoot forwards (as if the spear were actually thrown). The Spear itself stops an inch away from the person's palm and is then able to be grabbed again. A number of bolts equivalent to the person's A/R with Spear is possible. Each bolt is +20% 1d12 +5/+5 vs Evil / Dark beings. 1d12 +10% +3/+3 vs others, except those of pure heart or Lawful Good intent, who are immune to its effects. Bolts have no specific range and keep going until they strike something or naturally dissolve in atmosphere (normally after several miles). For purposes of effecting evil Wraiths / undead / Spirits of POW, the Spear delivers +5 / +5 POW drain and impales on a 7-12 for double damage and criticals (i.e. +10 / +10 !). Ouch. |
