Skathen
was one of the original 13 Spirits of the Armageddon Clock. But in 2602
he learned from a captured Ki-rin how to subsume other spirits and make
use of their powers. With this knowledge, he tipped the balance between
the other spirits and began a campaign of violence to become the only hour
left.
During the Mordarkian
invasion, Skathen moved unnoticed and eventually swallowed the other twelve
hours. But before he could make use of his new powers, Ashar bound him
in Astral chains and cast him adrift in Dark Sea.
Years later Skathen
escaped his chains and re-entered the World. At first he moved quietly
and cautiously in fear of Ashar detecting him. But as the time of Prophecy
drew near, his appearances began to get more bold.
In 2617 Skathen
appears to Ragnek Stormcrow, Herald of Daig. On Ragnek's suggestion, Skathen
displays some of his new powers. He travels to Ischandi's vale in the North
lands and causes a terrible explosion that literally rips through reality.

Later in the
Campaign of 2617, just after the arrival of The Hollow, Balthazar puts
his great mind to work, using the World Mind to create various scrolls
and books of knowledge. Using Mental Creation (whereby he imagines what
he wants and then pushes it forth from his mind, allowing the World to
fill in the blanks), Balthazar provides invaluable information.
A few hours
later, Balthazar takes this power to a new extreme by transferring all
the World's knowledge of Titans into his mind. He becomes quite mad with
the power and sets about summoning Titan objects from across the World.
