The Custodians

See Arkysancture for more information

No one knows from where they originated but eons ago, a race known only as the "Seers" gave up their physical bodies in favor of replica bodies made from a flexible hyper sensitive metal. As these new forms never aged and were virtually indestructible, the Seers became immortal and embraced the doctrines of Universal Law.

However their race began to disband when it became apparent that the minds inside these new immortal bodies were unable to survive Eternity without going insane.

The Seers decided to build several enormous space faring vessels to explore the Multiverse. Collectively known as the "Harbinger's", these titanic, artificial worlds were set adrift so that in Time, they would map out the entire Multiverse. Their crew members were called "Custodians" and for thousands upon thousands of years they ranged across creation.

Smaller vessels existed of various shapes and sizes. Wherever the Custodian's went, they would dismantle technology and rebuild it better than before. Believing that everything in the Universe should be remade in a more permanent and perfect form. However the Custodian's wouldn't stop at technological advancements. They would often interfere with the natural evolution of a species through the use of genetic engineering and in some cases wipe out an entire World to start again from scratch by using Terra forming.

Calath of the Cairn

Calath was one of Ischandi's Wise during the 13th century and died fighting the Dragon Ruthannen. At that time, Ischandi wasn't raising the Wise after their deaths, so Calath would have stayed dead. But Ischandi did raise Calath as a Lich - giving him the black steel sword "Sorrowthorn" and the Crown of Skuldor.

Calath became known as the Sleeper in the Fountain and the Master of the Manifold - appearing to various Lords of Citadel Karnath in the dead of night.

Residing under the Citadel in a system of caves, Calath guards a fountain of Holy water. He is something of a legend to the people of Karnath.

Excerpts from "The Chronicles of Kryll"

The Quest of Celbrias the Grey

As foretold in the Chronicles of Selanthius, a time came in the year 220 4a when the Black Triangle formed. It came to pass that the BlackLord of Marlonia (Gortte Lionsmane) seduced by sorcery and lust for domination charmed his daughter; the Queen of Lioncitel, Shanna Lionsmane. But this deed was not done without a price, for the BlackLord had to call upon the Sardionites themselves to do his bidding, the price being his very soul.

The BlackLord in great disguise woven by threads of magic, entered the palace of Lioncitel and by enchantments of malign nature, made haste towards Shanna Lionsmane's quarters. There did he reveal himself to her in the disguise of a friend and caused her to drink of a cup lined with a great potion of enslavement from one of the BlackLord's allies. That very night the Queen vanished and palace guards spoke of a great black bird bearing her away with a laughing cowled figure at the bird's neck.

Shanna was taken hence to the BlackLord's mountain of power, the Devil's Horns, and from there did she serve the BlackLord for many weeks. Together in their corruption they plotted the capture of Shanna's beloved daughter, Trinniarna Lionsmane, intending on her to complete their Triangle.
Sure enough by the greater powers of the BlackLord's allies, Trinniarna Lionsmane was drawn with those spoken of in the great Prophecy unto the mountain and there confronted her mother and grandfather. They played the strings of her emotions and lured her into drinking the potion as well, trying by deceit of the mind to turn her to evil.

So it was out of fear for her friends that Trinniarna was turned to serve the BlackLord and her sorcerous Song brought great danger for the Child of Light. Yet in her soul she was not evil and her Song was curbed from it's full potential. So was the Child of Light banished instead of destroyed and her heart ached sharing in his pain for the love she had felt for so long had only now come into the light.

So were the three joined as one and the Triangle formed. They bent their powers to work evil in several places, furthering the cause of Torg and his high priest. Now Othgartium the Eternal was also there as part spirit and did press upon them the will of the Anti-God so that the imprisonment would not be everlasting.

The Father of Trinniarna Lionsmane and husband to Shanna, found great courage in his loss. Celbrias the Gray by name, an elf of high stock and noble blood, gathered around him a selection of his best men, the fearsome Lioncitel guard. The Hawklems set forth to pound upon the very gates to BlackLand. These grimly determined men, without fear of death, instilled in each other a burning desire to return their Queen. They marched high over the fearsome mountains and through many a bloody skirmish. Against numbers far greater and opponents far larger than themselves, the resolution of these warriors struck upon even the cold anvil of the Dwarven Gorean heart and thus was aid granted.
Mighty groups of Gorean's, flocked together and drove forward in true dwarfish fashion. The enemy gates fell under the sappers of ages and the wall of Marlonia was breached beyond repair.
Across the graveyard of Maragor did Celbrias lead his men. Here they were joined by two newcomers. A Dryad of pale china skin and a speaking cat. The Dryad was known to be Shanna Lionsmane's mother and the Cat, known to be her life-long companion.
Now the BlackShroud was not without foresight and had sent a demon of might near to even the Keshites in power. One night it slithered it's way into Celbrias's camp and began wreaking demonic fury upon his men. But as men were tossed aside, the Dryad took from around her neck a group of golden acorns and threw them into the dust. Almost immediately did a dozen mighty trees spring up and join their deep cries of rage with those of the warriors of Lioncitel. The demon was beaten back and driven off a cliff by the combined efforts of man and tree.

Celbrias would delay no longer and set forth that very night, struggling across the vast plain to the Devil's Horns; the mountain raised by the BlackLord to keep secret his foul deeds. Known by name for the two horn-like rocks protruding from it's highest point and a haven to all creatures of darkness, Celbrias's group did indeed see a writhing mass of beasts huddled at the mountain's base. Passing in the shadow of the horn's they stealthily approached and smuggled themselves into the mountain through a discreet side entrance.

Passing scenes of darkness and evil spawned within the eye of Othgartium himself, the small group made their weary way up and a steep and winding path, ever higher into the sprawling catacombs of darkness. Here many terrifying things took place and Celbrias's warriors were reduced down to only five. With him traveled Mock Lamiss, a mercenary of foul temperament but steady sword arm. Chel Ryle, General of the Hawklems, the Dryad called Tullisianna and the cat called Carithalintius.

Arriving at the peak of the mountain, they entered the BlackShroud's inner sanctum and there Celbrias confronted the BlackShroud - DarkLord of Marlonia and bearer of the accursed sword Statix. Shanna spoke soft words to her husband and began seducing him with all worldly pleasures. But Celbrias knew that this was not his true wife and brought forth the Eye of Memories so that Shanna should be forced to gaze into her past life. Thus was the powerful charm weakened and in realization of what she had done, she embraced Celbrias, sharing by body and mind the love they held between them. Their spiritual link flared stronger than ever, enabling her to turn on the BlackShroud with a hardened soul.
At the edge of an almost bottomless pit Shanna and Celbrias confronted the BlackShroud. The others, led by Chel, fought off the beasts and demons, clearing a way out of the mountain by which the couple could escape.

Suddenly Shanna and Celbrias saw Trinniarna bound and held by the BlackShroud over the pit. In a sudden violent, uncontrollable burst of hatred, Shanna flared her mind and stunned the BlackShroud, beginning an exchange of deadly spells between father and daughter. The walls of the fortress shook and vanished even as the sky darkened.

The BlackShroud eventually to exhausted to continue, retreated back in a panic and called forth the Power of 3, The Sardionites and in quick response they sent it. Only after he uttered the words did he realize his folly. The Sardionites power directed at Shanna would mean a terrible price. He tried to undo the invocation but all he managed to do was bend the death magic away so that it struck the innocent Celbrias instead.

Shanna did not notice the death of Celbrias, so caught up in her conflict. She loathed her father and wished his evil gone from the world. So fighting on, she drew upon every last drop of essence to fuel her spells. As she weakened, the BlackShroud grew stronger with the power of the Sardionites behind him and things looked bleak. He struck out her sight and brought her to darkness. He wracked her body with inner fire and assailed her mind with mighty blows, undermining a lifetime's defenses. Before Trinniarna could move, the BlackShroud stood before the defenseless queen, his own flesh and blood; the Lady to bring light to the darkness. With one last cry, he cast his curse into her face and struck her down with his staff of power.

In triumph he gazed down at her dead body, suddenly puzzled. He strangely felt some sorrow for what he had done and turned upon Trinniarna in a state of shock. Having been thrown clear of the pit in the battle of spells, she grasped the Eye of Memories and shakily got to her feet, approaching the DarkLord with the eye before her.
"I know you now, DarkLord. You do not have everything. Where are your friends, your family, your love. I see fear, and lies surrounding you.  You stand alone and always shall stand alone for your life now is stagnant and every part of your being destined to this forever. Kill me and you shall have none to think of you. Kill me and you shall be forgotten by all."
As she spoke, three shadowy beings began to manifest nearby, striking terror into every fiber of Gortte's being. Trinniarna used this distraction to drag her mother and father into the shadows, for just then, the three shapes materialized in full and fell upon the BlackShroud with otherworldly cries of joy. They each took a bite of their prize and in a swirl of shadow stuff, vanished, leaving Trinniarna alone.
She sang then; the singer of wishes wove a mournful song filled with emotions so strong that the BlackShroud heard it on his way to hell and wept before his new laughing tormentors. The doors to the fortress closed and never again opened, the evil confined to fester inwardly and eat itself to oblivion.

Out on the great plain, Trinniarna found her mother clinging to a thread of life. On those plains of Maragor she spoke her last words, surrounded by the spirits of her ancestors.
"I hear Hanali and know that I am expected. Is Celbrias here ?" And Trinniarna looked upon her dead father and said that he was waiting. Shanna Lionsmane, Queen of the Moon Kingdom and Lady of Light then died, and over the body a being appeared; a lady garbed in a golden mesh with flowing silver water for hair. And the aura from this presence was divine.
"Trinniarna, you have fought bravely and withstood great personal loss. Your grief is great, yet will one day be lightened. No more will your grandfather cause pain or sorrow and these lands will hold people once more in the years to come. Your mother and father are now in my care so know now that they are together and my gift of love to them is everlasting. Be at rest and weep freely, but in happiness, for their tasks are now completed. Soon will you love also and know I am forever near."

Then to Trinniarna did Hanali give an ease to the pain so her grief could flow freely. Hanali departed and Trinniarna, Chel, Mock and Tullisiarna erected a stone and buried Shanna and Celbrias together.
After a few weeks two trees grew over the stone with intertwining branches. Their leaves were golden and their flowers  never before seen. These trees became a sign of life and hope as the plains had held no life since the slaying of the Mara's. Yet the mourning God of the plains allowed them to remain and never fade.

The cat retired in old age to the Elven kingdom to pass away soon after. The dryad, also old by hundreds of years, rested by the two trees till the end of her days.
As for Mock and Chel, they pleaded for their new queen to return, but Trinniarna would not. To Chel she gave the Seal of Lioncitel and to him she also granted the throne. With this he knelt and wept, swearing by code of honor to continue ruling Lioncitel as Shanna and Celbrias had.

Trinniarna knew her choice was right; Chel returned to become the 3rd King of Lioncitel. Mock Lamiss became Lord General to Chel's armies and Lioncitel continued to prosper. Of Trinniarna, last of the Lionsmane's and last of the great Sulian family, she walked alone, awaiting her own true love.

Colt Hardy
Warrior of Silver Keep

Brother of Tess Hardy and son of Elkor the Enchanter, Colt inherited his father's dashing looks and dark hair. Totally confident and daring almost to the point of stupidity, Colt joined Silver Keep at the age of 21 (2596) but never quite settled down into their routines. He'd often disappear on a journey around Esia, only to slink back several weeks or months later.

Only item - A sword of Sharpness +15% +4 / +2.

Coven's of Mordark

There are 12 Covens of Mordark around the continent of Eldahar. They exist for the sole purpose of bringing down civilization, governments and monarchies, causing anarchy, chaos and confusion. They also serve to pave the way for Mordarkian invasions through subterfuge, spying and assassination. They are Mordark's gorilla force - nearly all human and less detectable than demons.

The Covens exist in the following countries and were each founded in the year 1956 by the Morlord Minantias.

Esium, Kane, Shandar, Elandia x 2, Beldorn, Eridorn, Andor, Berthain, Khur, Lanth and Zemestan.

There can be a maximum of 12 in any Coven.

All Coven members are marked astrally by a red Chaos sign. This is only visible to those who can see astrally or to demons. In addition to this sign, all Coven members wear a coven ring, except the coven leader who wears a Master ring.

A normal coven ring gives +20% Magic resistance and 5 AP protection. The Master ring does the same but with one important extra - wearing the Master ring allows the Coven leader to sense where all other members are (even if they don't have a ring) and allows the leader to call to them through painful impulses. The Master ring can also Death spell (12th level) any of its Coven's members at will, making the Coven leader someone to be feared.

Esium's Coven
Circa 2595 +

From 2590 to 2597, Esium's Coven was dominated by a man called Cole. He ruled the Coven with a lethal hand - keeping all the Coven's secrets to himself. He hid the majority of coven rings and got his Ritualist ally Zeth to choose people for the Coven at random or if they even sniffed of trouble.

Member's of Cole's Coven barely lasted a year before dying, which was how he liked it. He lived in paranoia of someone usurping him and liked keeping people well and truly in the dark.

By 2598 Cole was dead, slain by Luvon - Master of Elements. A new Coven leader called Mona appeared. She had different ideas on how to run things and chose her new members with great care. She didn't want psychpaths, warriors, killers or rapists. She wanted sages, bards and nobles (with one or two fighters thrown in for good measure).

Mona's Coven proved the shape of things to come. But unfortunately, Morwen (as she became known) the Wood Witch lost her entire coven to an assualt by the Merlendy resistance on the 16/10/2600.

Curr
An Esium Coven member

Curr's defining moment of existence came when North chopped his head off (29/4/2595).
Born in Eastern Daas as the son of a fanatic Emonra worshipper, Curr grew up, surprisingly, as a fanatic too. 5'9" tall with dark hair, dark eyes and a completely hairless head, Curr joined the Coven of Mordark and sold his soul for one reason and one reason only - to get people to listen to him.

Gaining the demonic power of confusion and mind implanting illusion, Curr was determined not to be the dismal failure his father was.

He leapt out in front of North planting the illusion of fire in the young man's mind. He did it so successfully that North was helpless and about to die from mental shock - but fate had other plans. A lucky dice roll (a 1 in 100) and Curr died, allowing North to go on to greater things.

Cymbalin
The Peacebringer

cymbalinBorn in the village of Cardle (near Cardelyn wood) in the year 2581, Cymbalin had a normal Daydarkian childhood with her parants Bryni and Markil. However at her coming of age (12) she was taken to the nearby citadel of Doomwaith and presented to the High Kori Jarva. He gazed into her confident face and saw the power of peacebringing within her.

Speaking to her Kori parants, Jarva organized it so Cymbalin and her family could move to the citadel. Once there, Cymbalin would study alongside him and learn the Peace bringer's ways.

In Doomwaith, Cymbalin found the religion of Aiah her greatest comfort. As a Kori she had always followed the Gods and thier holy days very closely but now Aiah seemed to be calling her and Cymbalin wanted to know more of the sacred rites and rituals. So it was that her unquenchable thirst for knowledge led her to Pris, the High Kori of Aiah.
Between Jarva and Pris, Cymbalin became a font of knowledge.

For several years she practiced her God-given Peacebringing powers. It soon became apparent to Jarva and Pris that Cymbalin's ability to sway people's minds and decisions exceeded anything they had previously seen or even heard of. To some extent they feared her power and feared how quickly she was learning. But Cymbalin would always smile away their fears and say the right thing.
"Do not reveal your power to anyone other than us," Jarva would constantly say. "The Lords will not understand it. They will seek to kill you as they have sought to kill me. My child, ours is not an easy task, but following the path laid out by the Gods is never easy. The Gods test us so that we may be worthy."

As the Lords of Daydark became aware of Cymbalin's growing influence in Doomwaith, just as Jarva forewarned, they became jealous. Cymbalin found herself the target of attempts to shame her, even kill her in accidents or kidnap her with paid off Orn warriors. One night they even sent a Champion to seduce her but like all the plots and plans before, Cymbalin saw it coming and took steps to avoid it.

Who is the Peacebringer?
Daydark is the only land of the far north to have a Peacebringer. A Peacebringer is a Kori (holy man or holy woman) that possesses the mental power of Coercion.
As the population of the far north is all but devoid of mental powers, Coercion is extremely rare and doesn't come about by chance. It usually shows itself in one or two people of each generation but occasionally out of the entire population, one person displays extraordinary potential. This person (if found) is chosen to become the next Peacebringer. If they aren't found and the old peacebringer dies, it can be generations before another one is chosen.

Coercion
Coercion is the mental power of charm / enthrall and suggestion. Cymbalin can not only do these things but she can also dominate a person's mind and force them to do what she wants.

Why have a Peacebringer?
Doomwaith has always had feuding Lords. Whereas the Wise of Cairis would normally keep these Lords from obliterating one another and weakening the whole country, the Wise in recent centuries have grown more and more preoccupied with the Ice Queen Louhri, war with Aegis and the ever present threat of Evermore and its Mormen.

A peacebringer's main duty is to keep the land from falling into a fullscale civil war. To do this the peacebringer travels around the land, visiting each of its Lords and helping to resolve disputes that no one else can / will.

A peacebringer must never be bloodthirsty or power hungry. Must never destroy any relations with other lands or lords and must never take sides with one Lord against another.

This makes the peacebringer a target for Evermore and Daydark's other enemies who would like the land to fall into anarchy. It also means that the majority of Lords do not welcome a Peacebringer's arrival; Lords like their games and plots. Many of Daydark's Lords like resolving their disputes in blood.

Recent Histroy (circa 2600)
Jarva died in 2600 at the ripe old age of 69 (damn old for Daydark where most people don't even see 45). Cymbalin became the new Peacebringer 3 days later and immediately had to settle a dispute between Lord Lisant of Cinshal and Lord Thendry of Merthyr.

Personality / description
Cymbalin is a strong minded, confident young woman who because of her powers, has defied the traditional role of women in Daydark to become a respected, essential part of events. Her appearance is that of a thin woman (thin because of her Rite of Aiah that protects her vs the extreme cold and has removed any need for extra fat) with long chestnut wavy hair and pale skin. She has never killed a human being and doesn't ever want to.

Cymbalin hates trolls, Mormen and giants. A troll killed her friend Jenna when she was only 7 so she's quite happy using her mental powers against these creatures.

She is lucky enough to be ambidextrous and gifted with sensitive fingers (+2 SEN).

Prayers of Aiah
As Peacebringer and new High Kori of Aiah, Cymbalin knows certain rare prayers and rites.

Prayer of Blessing - Blesses a person (adds +5% to saving throws).
Ceremony of Acceptance and Bonding.
The Rite of Pledging.
The Age Songs (sung on special occasions).
The Land Songs (Song's about the Lord's of Doom)
The Prayer of Hanna (Sung by women when their husband's depart for war)
The Rite of Aiah or Prayer of Winter's Veil (grants protection vs cold on anyone she touches (even herself). Lasts on average 3 hours).

The Power of Peace Making
Cymbalin has 79 SR in Coercion and a Mental STR of 26.12
She effectively coerces at 16th level skill.

Her range is LOS or in a 50' radius. Beings must normally hear her Voice. If they don't / can't, her chance of success decreases by up to 30%

She can effect a group of beings but her coercion is divided among each.
The being she is trying to influence must understand her suggestion (i.e. speak the same language or understand her imagery.)

Typical Cymbalin uses of her power;-
Make simple suggestions (1st level +)
Charm people (4th level)
Implant ideas / thoughts into someone's mind. (6th)
Convince someone / something that it is something else. (Delusion 8th level)
Dominate someone's mind (12th level +)
Cause any emotion to be raised or suppressed. (1st level+)
Coax the truth out of someone. (7th level)
