Shane was aged 20 at death, blonde hair, green eyes, one of the damned - Shane is Immortal and bares the Sign of the Void - A priest of Shy-re he can summon all manner of Shy-re's dead servants. He was sacrificed by his own master Si Faber, in a ritual to escape the enslavement of Ash-lude's soul-ring, The Ring of Gloom. Shane's Story I was an ordinary boy, born in the village of "Am-peon" in the Shalmaze woods to the south of Shahpan in the year 2568. My village was attacked by Raiders from Armille called the Zuam'me, my family killed and all babies exposed to the Armillian God Rashuda. A wandering priest of Shy-re called 'Father Sky-arm" found the three of us and took us to a nearby Temple of Rammadan in Taskal. I grew up with the monks, but never felt at home with them. 'Yaani and Taltar" both became initiates, adepts and then acolytes, accepting the prayers and rituals, but I rebeled. I was wayward - free-spirited, fool-hardy. I left the Temple aged eleven and tried to make my way in the world. Yaani and Taltar eventually became full initiates but I didn't see them for four years. My Wisdom 'Faber" said I had great potential as a Rammadan, but I didn't believe him. In the Winter of 2583, Yaani sent word to me that I should come to the Temple. When I arrived, she appeared older and wiser. She had spoken with the dead and fed them from her spiritual fonts in payment. She told me of Shatul. For a hundred years Shy-re had advised the Shaylonds. Now a priest of Shy-re called 'Yonin" had decided to go solo, using underhand tactics in the court. The current Shaylond Hadan the II was a man weak of character and full of vice. He gladly accepted Yonin's new type of Wisdom, that gave him the freedom to sink into depravity. Yonin was being advised by a powerful spirit he'd contacted called Shatul. He travelled despite his Wisdom's advice to the Temple of Sha'mur'ran and released Shatul's servant - a dread spirit called 'Ki Wang". A thousand years ago, Ki Wang, a fearsome Shaylond, ruled over the whole land with a dark fist. He commanded great power and great evil, bringing terror to the surrounding lands of Kaimyrrh and Ulakhan.' "Ki Wang, The White-Sword - A man of Armille as Shaylond who usurped the Shaylond Malaki and took his head. Ki Wang - whose soul was imprisoned in Sha'mur'ran under the Rock of Ages - released. Initially gaining strength from Yonin, Ki Wang sought the secrets of the 'Isa'Pah" to tap his own power and become free of Yonin's influence. The PriestHood of Wisdom's, dedicated to Life and Death, Dawn and Dusk, Twilight - refused to give him the secrets. Yonin was imperfect and had not been trusted with the Higher Revelations - The 21 Revelations on the Path of Arda leading to true Enlightenment. Ki Wang began burning Temple's to Shy're and slaying priests. As news spread, Priests went into hiding, becoming travellors. Many died, the Shaylond not lifting a finger and ordering other Temples to ignore the slaughter as private Temple business. He passed the Right to Revenge where anyone could seek to reclaim debt from anyone else through foul or violent means - The face of the World began to change. But try as he might, Ki Wang and Yonin's loyal troops began to find it more and more difficult to track down Shy're priests. What's more, Priest's of Shy're already slain were still advising and lending their power to the living ones! Ki Wang and Yonin vanished for a time - No one knew where they went, but a calm descended. Some foolish followers of Shy're emerged from hiding, but the oldest and wisest remained hidden where Dawn and Dusk meet. A Time and Place called 'Shy'Ardan, "Temple of the Void between Life and Death. Yaani told me all this and of the journey my Wisdom Faber and Talter had already made to Shy'ardan. I wanted them to fight Ki Wang and she said some had, but to no avail. Shy're could protect them against Ki Wang's current powers, but not Yonin's alliance with the Shaylond - The Shaylond was sending secret troops to hunt Shy're. We were conspired against at all turns. Some Temples; like Lupon aided us and sheltered us, but it did little good. Yaani wanted me to accompany
her to Shy'ardan. She didn't think she'd make it on her own. She knew how
to reach it, you needed a spirit-guide, and she had one. I agreed, but
as the days went by, I saw her tire. Month's passed, she seemed to age.
Eventually I was nearly carrying her - a woman perhaps three times my age!
Ki Wang returned. He brought with him a foreign Mystic called 'Jin'Rarsha." This Mystic could kill people at a great distance using a strange art of magic. He became known as Shadow-Killer and slew several great Shy're Wisdoms. Shy're was not idle. At Shy'ardan, the Wisdoms summoned great Servitors and sent them against Ki Wang. At this time, one Priest of Shy're not in the Temple. He summoned a Servitor and between them, slew Yonin and his army of two thousand. The Priest, called Daras Marsa, wielded great Rammadan powers combined with those of the Shy'dra. But despite his victory, he later fell to Jin's Mystic arts. It was a great loss to us all. Ki Wang, without a mortal
to bridge the veil, was trapped on the Otherside. However, his taste for
the living world drove him mad with desire... Jin'Rarsha summoned him next
and became his new host.
With the Ring of Souls,
Ki began eliminating all dead Priest's of Shy're from the Otherside. A
confrontation was arranged, at the Fall of Night.
I don't know exactly
what happened - But the Wisdom's would have summoned the Shy'dra within
them and unleashed it. Any way, Ki's connection to Jin was severed and
he wasn't seen again after that battle. At that battle, Shayr, most powerful
Wisdom after Daras was raped and slain, by a fearsome soldier of the Shaylond
called Ash-lude. However, as she died, she used the last of her power to
throw both herself and him off the Fall. Something happened between them.
I don't know what it does, or what it means. But I think it's to do with the Void. |

"Came across a tattered piece of scroll harkening back to the "good old days." The scroll contained an eye-witness account of a strange woman who appeared one evening just southwest of Erlendy in Esium, fending off an attack by several strange demons." - Ezmonius the Chronicler. Dwelling on one of Eldahar's fragmented IDIOMS of reality called Pearl, an island in the Shining Sea, Sherlin wears a crown of sparkling stars, can enthrall at will, blur at will and fight with two blinding rings of stars (one in each hand). An Esium Coven member Intensly loyal, Sinato was raised to believe in the chain of command without question. Born in Esium, he saw both his parents die before the age of six and had to survive being the underdog for many years. He grew to hate the "perfect" family, especially nobility where everything seemed to be handed out on a platter. After joining Esium's Coven of Mordark, he gained the power of silence (in a 10' diameter) and the ability to catch sounds, mimic them and throw them back at will. His hearing was x5 that of a normal human being, allowing him to become a better thief / assassin. Sinato is a Suraanese name meaning "Little Pin." |

day back in 2580 a young woman called Myrtlen was walking across the pleasant
countryside around Irendy collecting flowers - a hobby she had and greatly
enjoyed. Of simple origins and plain appearance her flowers were a distraction
from the pain she had experienced all her life - from the untimely death
of her parents to the loss to two children in childbirth.
To top it off her husband Miklos had just left her for another woman who could give him children leaving Myrtlen distressed and virtually suicidal. As it was a nice Summer's day (at the peak of a heat wave), Myrtlen decided to take a long walk and not come back. She stopped at her favorite spot and sat down on the sun baked earth, taking out a knife. Then with tears in her eyes she slit her wrists and lay down among the flowers. Luckily for Myrtlen her act did not go unnoticed. Despite being miles from the nearest human being something witnessed her sadness and felt her pain. Its name was Forpus - a young air elemental. Forpus had always been a wanderer, traveling away from his own kind, much lower to the ground than others dared and his father allowed. He should have been miles above, darting between the clouds and igniting sparks of energy with his friends. But like many times before, he had gone exploring. In some strange way he felt the girl's pain and wanted to help. In desperation he called to the Grand Air Elemental Aureon, his father and father of "The Thousand" (a 1000 Storm Elementals). Aureon answered his son's calls and descended from the upper atmosphere to see what all the fuss was about. As he did the clouds darkened, the wind picked up and the remaining 999 Storm Elementals (Forpus' brothers and sisters) descended as well - eager to see Forpus be punished for defying Aureon's rule). Aureon commanded Forpus to leave the girl alone and come back to "The Endless Sky," but Forpus somehow still felt the girl's sorrow - it was a feeling no other Storm Elemental had known. After all Storm Elemental's only knew the joy of the Endless Sky and Storm making - they did not age, could not die and did not mate (all being one family). Looking at his son, Aureon could see a storm brewing in his son's soul and being the Grand Lord of Storms, knew how to deal with such things. He swept his son up and into the sky, determined to shake the sorrow from his son's soul and make him normal again. The clouds became tall mountains of black and the wind raged. The 999 Storm Elementals obeyed their father without question, whipping the sky into a frenzy, igniting clouds and sparks of lightning into a full blown hurricane. But Forpus still felt and Forpus still knew pain. Despite Aureon's best efforts to shake Forpus' being back to sanity, Forpus could not forget the girl below him. Aureon would not give up. He kept his children Storm-making until they were all too tired to go on. Only then did he realize the terrible thing he had done. Forpus' strange link to the girl had infected the storm. The pain and sorrow had diluted itself into the rain and poured down onto the mortal world in a flood of tears. Thousands of innocent creatures had now shared in Forpus' grief and Myrtlen's pain. Aureon was beside himself. In all his thousands
of years he had never made a storm like it.
"Then send me down to her father. Make me one of them so that these feelings can go away." Aureon thought for a moment. As a Grand Elemental
he had heard of a human calling himself "The
Lord of Elements." Perhaps this human would know how to accomplish
such things.
Eventually Aureon found Luvon - The Lord of Elements and explained his son's dilemma. Luvon proved understanding and extremely knowledgeable of such matters. He explained that Forpus and Myrtlen were kindred souls and that souls transcended all physical forms. There was only way to save both of them and
Luvon would have to help.
Wasting no time, Luvon turned to Forpus and
said, "Your lightning can recharge her. Too much
and it will kill her. Too little and she will still die. But before you
use it, you must enter her body through her mouth and expand to fill every
part of her being. Can you do this?"
"What now?" asked
Aureon, hovering overhead as a mile high tornado.
When Myrtlen awoke she found herself alone and miraculously healed. Her sorrow had also gone, like a fever that had suddenly broken, leaving her strangely light and at peace. She walked back to her house and carried on with her life until one day almost nine months later, to her total surprise, she gave birth to a healthy son. Seeing it as a blessing she named the boy Sky and rejoiced at the change in her fortunes. Over the next few years, visitor's to Buxly would often comment on the wonderful weather there. The way the windmill always turned and how lucky the young girl living at the edge of the village was to have so many valuable things blown into her garden. As Sky grew older Myrtlen began noticing peculiar things about her son but decided to accept them as part of the blessing. Encouraged to keep these strange things to himself, the young Sky found himself able to sense changes in the weather - especially storms. Then on the 11/8/2591 whilst out on a walk under a cloudless sky, he was suddenly without warning struck by a bolt of lightning. Instead of being vaporized on the spot he wound up knocked onto his backside, his body brimming with energy. He began running, jumping and talking. Unhurt by the lightning he found himself unable to sleep for days but not in the least tired. On the third day his hyperactivity came to an explosive head. Just when he thought he couldn't take any more or be able to sit still ever again, out of his hand popped a bolt of lightning - a bolt that blew apart his mother's best crockery. After that everything went back to normal.
After that visitors to Buxly would often comment on the sudden changes of weather. Especially the lightning in the nearby hills and almost constant peals of thunders. Sky in 2600.
As the entire country is being overrun by Wraith's who are very susceptible to lightning, Sky quickly becomes an important weapon in the war. His final days are spent in Yarili's Gost Yaroch - convincing the assembled Temples and High Priest's of Ortha to accept him as their Knight. Abilities
Stats below are for Sky at Peak of training during 2600. |

Suraanese Fire Mages Suraan
is dominated by four school's of magic dedicated to the four elements -
earth, air, water and fire.
Unlike Runaic Mages (based on Solomon's system of magic and practised in Esium), the Soronar and their other elemental counterparts treat the elements as living forces to create a rappor with. The Soronar have befriended several powerful fire elementals and learned how to channel, manipulate and control fire from them. As they are at one with the fire and know it in its purest form, they can control how much or how little they use, how hot it gets, what color it appears as and how it moves - Hence instead of set spells the Soronar have a Control Fire skill and a Conjure Fire Skill. Note - The Conjure fire skill dictates how quickly a Soronar Fire Mage can take a single flame and fuel it into a raging inferno. Specialities
of the Soronar.
The
Temple of Shaal Kappah - "Fire Prince".
From that day on Shaal was known posthumously as the "Fire Prince." Other

Their origins Back
in the days of the Titans (pre Cataclysm), a strange race of beings made
of light lived isolated from the other races. They were known as the Avatar,
a society of spiritualists calling themselves the "Anu'taka"
and existed in the Far North, in a land called "The
Land of the Sun" living at peace with the
World and all it's creatures.
Centuries later, after the gate cataclysm and Phanes' disappearance, they began taking disciples among the living, sharing their wisdom and guiding the unenlightened. One of these disciples was a man called Savar (meaning Holy one), who showed great understanding and quickly rose to be an equal among the Anu'taka, despite his fleshly state. The Anu'taka existed in harmony for many more years, each specializing in a particular facet of Nature - wind, fire, earth, stone with some becoming known as Elementals and spreading far and wide across the world. Now
those Anu who had still not found peace specializing in a part of Nature,
hung around Savar and Savar's people. They sensed something missing from
their existence, but couldn't fathom what it was.
Shaman was already very learned and wise, but seeing the glory of the Anu, immediately swore himself to Savar as a pupil, learning all the Anu's true-names and powers. Many years passed, during which time many of the Anu found Shaman's views refreshingly different and strange. They began meeting with Shaman and hearing his views. So it came to pass that Shaman spoke unto the Anu of the Human Spirit, of Love, Hate and the other powerful emotions. Those Anu who listened became obsessed with Shaman's words - he spoke to them of the power of emotions and the darkness in men's souls. The Anu became divided between those following Savar and those following Shaman's exploration of self. This division began the start of a long conflict. Shaman's Anu each chose a part of human nature to study. One chose Love, one chose Vanity, another chose Hate and yet another chose Anguish. Eventually, every nuance of the human spirit was being studied by an Anu. Savar feared for the harmony of the whole, as what had been one family of spirits, now was many and gathered his Anu and Anu Elementals in one last chance at recapturing unity. However Shaman stood his ground, defending the Human spirit. At the height of the spirit summit, Savar ordered his Anu into action. The host of Natural Anu and Elementals outnumbered Shaman's by about 100:1, giving Savar a distinct advantage. His Anu overwhelmed Shaman's, gathering them up in spiritual winds and dragging them off to be imprisoned. Savar believed they would change back in time, so a few centuries locked away wouldn't do them any harm. This madness caused by Shaman's teachings would quickly fade. What Savar didn't realize was this; many of Shaman's Anu had refused to attend the summit. These were mostly those of dark intent, such as Hate and War. They had learned how to mistrust and hence had not attended, just in case Savar betray them. Hearing of Savar's betrayal, Shaman's Anu, spirits of the human dark side, began planning revenge. But Savar knew of their escape and came looking for them. Shaman decided to flee south and take his Anu with him to start afresh in a new land. As Savar pursued his renegade pupil, Shaman revealed his true colors - he was a power to reckoned with. Summoning Sirius the Astral Wolf (a creature loyal to Shaman and of Homeland origin), Shaman ordered it to eat the Sun and the Moon. Without light, Shaman knew Savar's Anu would dwindle and fade, (though those existing as Elementals would not). But those Anu close to Shaman would survive, under his protection, for Shaman had taught them not to fear darkness, but embrace it. The wolf soared like a comet of stars and swallowed the Sun, plunging the world into darkness. But before it could turn on the Moon, Savar cried up to Heaven's ancient Gods and banished the wolf from the sky. However, without the Sun, as Shaman had planned, Savar's loyal Anu began fading. Savar had to act quickly as the Moon was not enough, waxing and waning each month in power. Savar killed himself and traveled to Heaven, seeking a New Sun for his Anu to live by. The Gods were kind and granted Savar his New Sun saying "You are worthy enough to bare its weight, for it is the weight of the World." He carried it back to earth, ready to set it in the sky and restore his Anu to power. Because of this deed, his people called him the Daycaster. That very night, Shaman crept into Savar's hut and stole the New Sun, for like Savar, Shaman was strong enough of spirit to carry the Sun. When Savar awoke, he was beside himself with anger and raced in pursuit of the Sun thief. As Shaman fled across a great range of mountains called the Frost spines, Savar caught up with an army of spirits behind him. Shaman stood atop a peak and shouted "Back, stand back, for I am Eternal. You shall not have the freedom of this Sun in the sky, but below !" With that, Shaman cast the New Sun down. The burning orb proved so heavy, it crumpled the mountains and became swallowed by the earth, plummeting ever downwards. Then the mountains shook and buried the New Sun and Savar's army in one titanic upheaval. A few years later, Savar called upon the Grand Elemental Anu, Menesteen, to tunnel under the mountains and find where the New Sun lay buried. Previous attempts had already been thwarted by Shaman's knowledge of the Anu and their weaknesses. Menesteen created a great tunnel under the mountains, joining Savar's northern land with Shaman's southern one. About midway, Menesteen discovered a great almost bottomless subterranean chasm, filled with Sunlight. Savar couldn't stop his Anu rushing down into the chasm, rushing into the New Sun's energy giving embrace. He sensed something amiss, but reacted too late. Shaman appeared out of nowhere, wielding a terrible Black sword of unnatural otherworldly matter. With one blow he struck the Elemental Menesteen and stole its soul. The sword, Mourn, writhed like a living demon in Shaman's grasp as the mountains quaked for a thousand miles. Menesteen's spirit had resided in a thousand miles of rock - now, with the Grand Elemental's demise, the mountains writhed and shook with a monstrous earthquake. The Anu of light, safe in the embrace of the New Sun, found themselves trapped by it like moths to a flame, as hundreds of tons of rock buried the tunnel and everything in it. Savar
stood before Shaman and asked "Why?"
But even Mourn, a sword born from the otherworldy power of Chaos, couldn't swallow all of Savar's spirit, so great it was. Savar wore the Soul Ring of his ancestors, an item as old as the Titan Phanes. It struggled against Mourn's demonic appetite, putting strain on Savar's soul. Eventually, Savar's soul broke into two equal parts; one part being swallowed by Mourn, the other remaining in the White Ring. Savar
died - but still partly existed in the White Ring.
Some versions are included below, as no one can know exactly what happened... Shaman taught many of the ANU the hopes, fears, dreams and emotions of being human. He showed them the good and the bad but to Savar, his actions were seen as curruption; Savar could not stand to see the purity of his Host brought down to the same level as humanity and argued fiercely with his former apprentice. So Savar called a spirit summit inviting Shaman and all of the corrupted ANU to attend. Shaman at first refused to go, considering it a trap. But the ANU who had sided with him, representing the lighter side of the human spirit, wanted to trust their former idol Savar and make peace. Reluctantly Shaman went along with them, only to find it a trap. Shaman used his ANU, who still outnumbered Shaman's, to round up the humanised ANU and lock them in the Vault of Eternity. Shaman
escaped and returned to his remaining ANU, those of a darker and more mistrustful
nature, representing the evils and so called faults of the human condition.
Meeting with them, he began making plans.
Types of Anu The Anu of Light Those Anu loyal to Savar. They believed in Nature and the World. Living now in the Great Chasm of the New Sun. The Anu of Dark Those Anu loyal to Shaman. Now known as the Spirit's of Cairis, these Anu have embraced the Dark side of the human soul - living off of emotions like Hate, Vanity, Fear and Pain. Years later, some of these Spirits were moved by Shaman to a far off country (Esium) where they would remain safe, as a secret weapon against the things to come. The Elemental Anu Those Anu who embraced pure element as a way of existence. Now residing in the wind, rock, fire and water. The Lost Anu These are the Anu imprisoned by Savar at the Spirit Summit. They reside now beyond the Veil of Midnight in the Tomb of Time / Vault of Eternity. So, who was Shaman? Shaman was a young Ischandi. See Ischandi, the Father Eternal. More Recent History Those Anu that followed Shaman south, settled down in their new home and to a new way of life. Without a Sun to thrive on, Shaman / Ischandi taught them to thrive off of darkness instead. Over many hundreds of years, they actually became allergic to the light of the Sun and Moon. Ischandi
made them all swear loyalty to him and the God Cairis in a special ritual.
This is how they became known as the Spirit's of Cairis.

The Spirits of Cairis are organized into Spiritual Houses. Example Houses are The House of Hate, House of Foe, House of Pain etc with one spirit per house. A Spirit of Cairis can exist for 800 years, exactly one astral cycle, before having to pass on it's House to another being and continue on to Daig. When passing on the House to another being, Spirits choose thier successor very carefully, finding someone who can be taught or already shares the same beliefs and ways of thinking that embodies the House. For example, the spirit of Doors may train and educate a living successor from childhood for many years. Then when it's time is up, it passes on it's power to that successor. The new Spirit of Doors remains alive for many more years until finally dying of something. Then they take on all of the Spirit's powers and responsibilities. Spirits can only be summoned during the Dark time's of the month - when the Moon is hardly in the sky. Even then, dark hollows, caves or “dark” places make the chance of them appearing greater. They usually appreciate a sacrifice or behavior similar to their spiritual belief upon arrival. Spirits are at their strongest during the night and day of the New Moon, from Midnight to Midnight and can manifest a physical body during this time (even during the daylight hours.) To summon a spirit, one must have been given it's name. This act of "giving" establishes a spiritual link between the spirit and the summoner. Spirits need spiritual energy from living beings to survive. I.e The Spirit of Vengeance thrives off of the act of Vengeance and is usually drawn to such potential situations. Of course some spirits are quite ingenious and will manipulate events in their favor. For instance the Spirit of Hate may cause two Lord's to hate one another by setting up a complex chain of events and misunderstandings. Pure Moonlight / Moon beams can weaken or kill a Spirit of Cairis. Direct Sunlight obliterates a Spirit of Cairis in seconds. It is possible to be a Living Spirit of Cairis and still possess powers. Living Spirits of Cairis are immune to Moonlight and Sunlight. A Spirit must respond to the summons of Ischandi or one of his Wise - due to the Oaths of Cairis. Spirit's of Cairis usually stay away from each other. They all represent a piece of Dark human psyche and therefore have a tendancy towards evil and mistrust. Note - These spirits are based upon the Campaign year 2616 but their House's haven't changed for many hundreds of years. In 2590 there were 336 spirits, but many were killed by Orin's Deathwatch just prior to Laylak's Undead Uprising of 2600. |

| Moon (M) | Can protect himself from Moonlight. | ||
| Ache | |||
| Doom | Likes popping up and saying how people are doomed. Doom's power comes from belief - hence if people believe Doom and get sucked into his Doom-speak, they will be doomed. A depressing, gloomy spirit that you wouldn't want to meet. | ||
| Vanity | She will sacrifice anything for her appearance and tries to persuade others to do the same. She will convince people they need to look better or are ugly and need to change. She breeds paranoia and obsession. | ||
| Raise | This spirit has a fascination with corpses and dabbles in Necrophilia. It likes to animate and move dead flesh, attends burials and unearths bodies. It arranges macabre "corpse" parties and talks to corpses a lot. Able to animate skeletons as well as zombies by breathing on them and whispering. | ||

| Brood (F) | This is the spirit of birth. It delights in making women pregnant (even when they don't want to be) but often demands the second-born child as its own. Brood then raises its "children" to hate parents and a lot of other things too. |

There are of course some types
of spirits that refuse to fit into any category other than "rogue." These
spirits have the will to survive beyond death (through fluke, emotional
turmoil etc) without having to rely on religions such as Akilla or Orin.
Below are some of the unique individuals that have appeared in Esium (circa
2600). Many of them were known to both Queen Kitara, High Doman Gray and
Alexor of the White Chaptor - who used them as spiritual spies and mercenaries
in the Undead War.

Storm died and came back as a Morman in the early part of 2510. In the following 90 years he regained enough intelligence and thought to be promoted to General. During the Evermore War of 2601, Storm led the northern army across Dawn and Whailin. He stood 7' tall wearing white scale armor and carrying a shield of hardened ice. The Ice Trolls also gave him a helm of Blue mist that protected him against fire. |
